Kolkata, 27 October 2011: Twelve babies have died in the last two days in West Bengal’s largest referral hospital for children.

"Most babies were below the age of six months. Most died due to infection and a few because they came in a very critical condition," said Dilip Kumar Paul, superintendent of the state-run BC Roy Children’s Hospital here.

The victims’ families blamed doctors for negligence.

Earlier this year, 18 babies died at the same hospital. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had ordered a probe, after which the doctors were given a clean chit.
