Bhubhaneshwar, 31 May 2011: The official chamber of Ramesh Chandra Majhi, Orissa’s Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste Development and Information Technology Minister, received a steady stream of visitors carrying bouquets and sweets on Monday.
It neither was his birthday nor was he elevated to the Cabinet rank in the Naveen Patnaik-led Ministry.
The Minister, who appeared for this year’s higher secondary (Std. XII) examination, cleared it with first division. The State Council of Higher Secondary Education announced the results on Monday. The Minister secured 376 marks out of 600 in the Arts stream.
“I am happy that despite my busy schedule I could pass the examination. I intend to continue my studies further,” Mr. Majhi told The Hindu here.
The young tribal leader had a packed schedule as he had to appear for the examination and attend the Assembly budget session.
Mr. Majhi wrote the exam in Panabeda Mahavidyalaya, under Chandahandi block in tribal-dominated Nawarangpur district. A special room was allotted to the Minister in the college, of which he is management committee member.
Was he expecting the first division? “I had done fairly well in all the papers I appeared. So I was expecting a good result,” Mr. Majhi said.
