Bangalore, 25 May 2011: The Karnataka government and indeed the union Home minsitry are worried after learning that some inmates of the Bangalore Central jail have been making phone calls to Pakistan.

The Bangalore Central jail houses several terror suspects. A probe is now underway.

The Home Ministry has found that calls from cell phones within Bangalore Central Jail have been made to Pakistan. The jail houses several terror suspects including two Pakistani nationals. The state CID has begun investigations as to who could have made the calls.

’Calls are being made from the jail and that’s why in the future we will be observing the calls, where the calls are coming, I think calls from Dubai and some areas are being made, we are very keen about sorting this," said Karnataka Home Minister R Ashok.

More than 15 terror suspects are housed in the Bangalore Central Jail. This includes suspected Indian Mujahideen members like T Nasir, Sarfaraz Nawaz and Abdul Sattar, charged in the serial blasts of Bangalore 2008.

The two Pakistani nationals that are housed in the jail are Karachi based Mohd Ali Hussain and Mohd Fahad, arrested by the Mysore police in 2006 & said to be members of the Al Badr terror outfit.

“The government has now decided to put jammers inside the jail, we are spending nine crore rupees for the jammers so that in the future we can prevent incidents like these,” said Ashok.

These investigations may have come too late, but other questions face the authorities such as how prisoners could get access to cell phones in one of the biggest jails in Karnataka.
