Dubai: Choice Cricketers won the Easter Cup 2013

Dubai, 09 Mar 2013: In an exciting final match in the Easter Cup Cricket Tournament 20123, Choice Cricketers emerged as Champions by defeating Bantwal Tigers in 5 runs on 8th March 2013 at the Safa Ground, Al Quoz, Dubai.
After winning the Toss, Choice Cricketers elected to Bat first and scored 48 runs in the allotted 6 overs by losing 6 wickets and in reply Bantwal Tigers managed to score 43 runs by losing 6 wickets in the 6 overs against the Full Powered Bowling attack from Choice Cricketers. Till the last over both played well however in the last over Bantwal Tigers surrendered to Choice Cricketers by losing quick wickets.
Earlier both the teams had a long journey towards the final as Choice Cricketers defeated Eagles Shirva (Champions of Easter Cup 2011) in the semi final match, where as Bantwal Tigers defeated Friends 11 in the other semi Final.
The tournament was played on the basis of knock-out. Among the four teams that emerged at the end for semi-finals were: Bantwal Tigers and Friends 11 from Group-A and Eagles Shirva and Choice Cricketers from Group-B.
Altogether there were sixteen teams that participated whole-heartedly in the tournament and were divided into two groups A and B. These teams participated in league matches are: Bantwal Tigers, Coastal Challengers, Taccode Friends, NFC, Friday Friends, Mangalore Lions, GMC, Karama Friends, Padubelle Friends, Friends 11, Riders, Royal Challengers, Play Boys, Eagles Shirva, ABL & Choice Cricketers.

Following the success of previous Easter Cup editions (2010, 2011 & 2012) Rajesh Alvares & Wilson Dmello along with the support of Taccode Friends, once again organized this tournament to bring the Konkani speaking youth from Mangalore-Udupi and to provide an opportunity for them to manifest their talents. It is also to be noted that all the teams and players have shown a great spirit of Cricket though out the day.
The outstanding performance of individual cricket players was recognized in the entire tournament beginning from the league, quarter finals, and semi-finals and in the final matches and was honored with the “Man of the Match” & “Man of the Series” awards respectively.
At the concluding ceremony, Vinay Pinto proposed the vote of thanks and the trophies were distributed to the winning teams by Mr. Wilson Dsouza, Mr. Noel D Almeida & Ms. Shanti Sequeira (Proprietor of Alwyn Restaurant, Karama).
Altogether it was a successful and well organized Tournament which was appreciated by the participating teams along with the spectators.
