Udupi: NDRF Commandos Hold Live Demonstration of Rescue at Sitanadi

Udupi, 12 Feb 2013: A group of people are crossing Sitanadi that is flowing with might since a vented-dam holds a large volume of water, while a few of them accidentally fall into the water and were on the verge of drowning. Meanwhile, a few trained swimmers among them jump into the water and rescue all the drowning people.
This is how the battalion of Guntur based National Disaster Rescue Force (NDRF) demonstrated the rescue operations in case of drowning during floods and other natural calamities at Neelavar, near here on Monday February 11.
Twenty-eight men of 20 battalion of Guntur based NDRF has been engaged in live demonstration across the district that is susceptible to floods, fire mishap, landslides, contagious diseases, road mishap, terrorism, man-made and natural calamities, in order to create general awareness on rescue operations in case of such unforeseen incidences.
The peoples’ awareness programmes will be held till February 24, in order to educate the local people whose role is vital in case of such cases. The locals may have some accessories but have no idea how to use for survival. The NDRF men demonstrate on first aid in case of road-mishap and precautions to be taken while the victims are transported to hospital etc. The commandos also demonstrated how to rescue the landslide victim or building collapse, etc.
The peoples’ awareness programme is being held in co-ordination with Udupi DC Dr M T Reju, district hospital blood bank centre medical officer and Udupi Indian Red Cross vice president Dr J Sharat Kumar Rao, Indian Red Cross natural calamities rescue sub committee president Prabhat M Kalkura.
NDRF sub-inspector M Vasudaran leads the commandoes in creating general awareness in different schools, colleges and village councils.
