Moodubelle: ICYM organizes Talents Day

Moodubelle, 09 Sept 2012: The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) of St. Lawrence Parish Moodubelle organized Talent Day in the Parish Hall on Saturday, September 8, 2012 from 4 pm to 7.30pm.
Prior to the variety entertainment programme, a brief stage function was organized presided over by Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes, parish priest and Director of ICYM. Following the prayer dance, Kevin Britto, president of ICYM welcomed the gathering. Prizes to the winners of various games and talents organized by ICYM for different age groups during previous three Sundays were distributed by Fr. Joswey Fernandes, Fr. Paul Sequeira, Fr. Lancy Saldanha, Vice President of Parish Council Alphonse K. Alva, Secretary Mrs. Jacintha D’Souza and Sister Superior of the Loreto Convent. The overall Ward Championship Shield was presented to St. Peter II Ward for having scored highest points in various games and talent competition.
Lloyd Rebello introduced the chief guest of the programme, Calistus D’Sa, Principal of Roman and Catherine Lobo School for the Blind, Mangalore. Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes honoured Calistus D’Sa with shawl, garland and fruits.
Though visually impaired from childhood, Calistus D’Sa was educated in the Divine School for the Blind in Bangalore. Later, he continued his higher studies in St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai and acquired M.A. degree following which he served as a lecturer in Mumbai. Presently he is serving as the Principal of Roman and Catherine Lobo School for the Blind, Mangalore.

In his address, Calistus D’Sa said that kindness is the thing through which deaf can hear and blind can see. Further he said that he was very much touched by the fact that he was felicitated by the ICYM Unit of Moodubelle. He appreciated the work that is being done by ICYM and wished the members well. He also spoke about Roman and Catherine Lobo School for the Blind, Mangalore and said that the visually impaired students are given education and training in the school free of charge and appealed the audience that if they come across any one between 6 and 16 years of age they could admit him or her in the school without any cost.
Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes honoured the sponsors of the Talents Day celebration by ofering them flowers.
In his presidential message, Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes said that the Talents Day has been providing an opportunity for the children, youth and even adults to showcase their talents and complimented ICYM for organizing such events. Speaking about the achievements of Calistus D’Sa one of the parishioners of Moodubelle, Fr. Joswey said that when the then Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. V.G.F. Rego found about the condition of Calistus when he was a small boy, he made arrangements for sending him to Divine School for the Blind in Bangalore and showed the way through which Calistus travelled and is presently the Principal of Roman and Catherine Lobo School for the Blind, Mangalore.
At the end of the stage programme, Alwyn Lobo, Secretary of ICYM proposed the vote of thanks. Royline Rodrigues compeered the stage programme.
The variety entertainment programme comprised of dance by Lower KG students, solo singing by Carol D’Souza (Voice of Udupi fame), Brenda Martis and Noel D’Souza, shayari by Jaison, group dances led by Larisha, Sara, Hazel, Dasi, Flancy, Vivian, solo dance by Delson and Pranoy, Mando Music led by Fr. Paul Sequeira, skits by Catholic Sabha, Stri Sanghataana and ICYM.
The variety entertainment programme was compeered by Rohan and Melisha.
