Udupi: MJC Moodubelle lifts Late Anandraya Kamath Memorial Trophy

Udupi/M’belle, 28 Dec 2013: In an exciting final match of the Late Anandraya Kamath Memorial Trophy limited overs cricket tournament that was held in St. Lawrence PU College ground on Saturday, 28 December 2013 from 9 am to 5.30 pm, MJC Moodubelle emerged as the champions beating Thokoli Friends Thokoli team.
Following the end of the tournament, valedictory function was held soon after which was attended by Rajendra Shetty-President of Belle Grama Panchayat, Devdas Hebbar-former President of Udupi taluk Panchayat, Commodore Jerome Castelino-Deans of St. Lawrence College, Fr. P. Raj-Principal of St.Lawrence English Medium High School, Gerald Fernandes-former Presdient of Zilla Panchayat and Joel D’Sa-former President of Bellevision (Bahrain).
During the valedictory function two former teachers of the Belle Church Aided Higher Primary School-Mrs. Thereza D’Sa and Mrs. Leena D’Almeida were honoured.
As the Mercy Trophy Tournament was held not only to promote village level cricket but also to provide financial help to the poor and needy, three personswere presented with such help.
Two students from the Manasa Institution Pamboor-Ajith and Muralidhar were felicitated on this occasion for their achievements in sports at the state and national level. Sr. Thelma, Principal of Manasa who accompanied these students was presented with a cheque.
Denis Martis and Ronald D’Souza who were in the forefront in organizing the Late Anandraya Kamath Mercy Trophy Tournament were felicitated for their service.
Devdas Hebbar, Joel D’Sa and Fr. Raj in their messages praised the efforts of the Mercy Trophy organizers in promoting the game of cricket and using the tournament to generate funds in order to help the poor and needy in the village.
Individual prizes for best performance were distributed to Bharath of Thokoli Friends team for Best Bowling; Nitin of MJC for Best Batting and to Rajesh as the Man of the Series.
The Late Anandaraya Kamath Mercy Trophy and cash prize of Rs.5,555/- was presented to the Runners Up Team-Thokoli Friends, Thokoli and the trophy and cash prize of Rs.7777/- was presented to the winning team MJC Moodubelle.
Ivan Menezes and Herman Castelino, the leaders of the Mercy Trophy proposed the vote of thanks and Charles Quadros compeered the programme.
