Mangalore: KCWA distributes scholarships to Degree and PUC Students

Mangalore, 02 september 2012: Scholarships amounting to about 8.5 lakhs were distributed to 208 PUC and degree students by Kuwait Canara Welfare Association (KCWA) in collaboration with ICYM/YCS at a function held at Shanthi Kiran, Bajjodi on Saturday September 1, 2012. The PRO of Bishops House, Fr William Menezes was the chief guest.
Fr Melwyn D’Cunha, Pascal Monteiro from KCWA, Ronald D’Souza, ICYM director, Francis D’Cunha, Nelson Monis, diocese president of ICYM and Joslyn Vas shared the dais. Pascal Monteiro, speaking at theis occasion said that the aim if KCWA since its origin in 1988 has been to promote education, especially primary for the poor by giving them financial assistance. He said the association has been organizing various programmes and the funds collected is being utilized on scholarships for students.
Praising the noble efforts of KCWA, Fr Melwyn D’Cunha appreciated that the members have been contributing a part of their income towards promoting education of poor students. He asked the students to be thankful to KCWA by remembering them in their prayers.
Francis D’Cunha in his message advised the students to make use of the opportunity provided to them and excel in life and thus show their gratitude to KCWA who had been kind enough to give them financial assistance.
Some of the KCWA members were present for the programme. They included Elias Sanctis, Louis Lobo, Jessy Pinto, Valerian D’Souza, David D’Souza, John Tauro and Nelly Colaco.
Nelson Monis welcomed and Sheldon Crasta compeered.
