Sooda: 2 women killed as lightning strikes explosives

Sooda (Udupi), 19 Jun 2012: In a freak incident, two labourers lost their lives following an explosion, at Padubettu in Nandalike near Belman on Tuesday.
According to police, the deceased are Mallawwa Hanumantha (35), a resident of Bagalkote and Ambika (24), a resident of Mudanoor Shirigundi in Kushtagi taluk of Koppala district.
The duo were taking shelter in a shed following heavy rain, when the mishap occurred. The explosives (gelatin sticks) which were stored in the shed exploded when lightning struck the shed, killing the duo on the spot.
Ambika along with her husband has been working in the quarry for the last six years. The couple have a five year-old child. MLA Gopal Bhandary, Tahsiladr Jagannath Rao visited the spot.
The shed in which women were taking shelter where the explosives exploded, belong to one Joy Kiran, police said.
