Udupi, 23 September 2011: Shivraj Patil resigned to his position as Lokayukta for the accusation of possessing two government plots. But here in Udupi a honest government employee has returned back the second plot allotted, 25 years ago! which should be an eye opener to all. Shrinivasa Shetty Thonse who is retired from his service in Tax department and currently serving as the resource person in Panchayath Raj was allotted a housing plot by the Graha Nirmana Mandali while he was in government service.
Before this, his wife also had applied for the housing plot. After husband was allotted the plot, wife also was allotted a plot. Some friends and Officers of Shrinivasa Shetty Thonse insisted him to take both the plots, but Thonse refused the plot allotted to his wife and took back the payments made for that plot.
The reason is, as per the Nagarika Seva rules there is provision for only one plot per family. Since husband – wife are one family, taking a second plot is against the rules, so I had refused the second plot, says Thonse. The plot which I refused at that time may be valuable of lakhs of rupees now. But the plot which is legally received by me is enough, I have the satisfaction of abiding by the rules, he says.
If Shivaraj Patil has received two plots, then it is a big mistake. His voluntary resignation for this issue is the right decision. Everyone who is in the service of the citizens have to follow the rules, opinions Thonse.

I am happy have the statement of Mr S.S.tonse. It fully supports my objection to Mr J.S.V.patil to continue as Lokayukta. I objected it in these columns and Anna Hazare also raised his voice. Public must be alert and oppose all corrupt practices and help live in comforts. |
