Mangaluru: Eminent make-up artist Gajanana Mahale no more

Mangaluru, 21 Oct 2015: Gajanana Mahale, Dharwad eminent makeup artist, and recipient of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy’s honorary award for contribution to folk art in 2014, is no more. He was 84.
Gajanana was an integral part of make-up of artists - be it in stage, drama and even cinema and other occasions where his art was needed.
Having involved himself in theatre and dance, Gajanana joined the dramas of Bendre and Sriranga and earned laurels with his skill as a make-up artist.
With his skills in acting too getting noticed, Gajanana’s talent came on silver screen in Suresh Heblikar’s Chamatkar and T S Nagabarana’s Singaaravva with meaty roles. Giving a folk touch to the make-up art was his specialty.
The academy taking note of his contribution to the field of make-up had conferred its honourary award at the awards function held in Bengaluru last year with CM Siddaramaiah conferring the award. The academy president Roy Castelino, registrar B Devadas Pai and members have mourned his death.
