Gold Haul at City Airport; Customs seize Gold over Rs 15 Lac

Mangalore, 21 Mar 2014: The officers of Customs at Mangalore International Airport (MIA) have once again busted another modus operandi and detected concealment of gold in the baggages of the passenger coming from Dubai and as a result seized gold totally weighing 529.640 grams in two separate cases totally valued at Rs.15,78,327.. In the first case, the officers seized Gold pieces, totally weighing 298.450 grams and valued at Rs 8,89,381 concealed in chocolates and further concealed in a carton box from the possession of a passenger named Shri. Davood Abdulkader Ibrahim, who is a resident of Subaida Manzil, Deli Junction, Paravanadukkam Post, Kasargod district of Kerala and arrived at MIA at about 04.45 hrs by Jet Airways fight 9W531 from Dubai.
In the second case, the officers have seized Gold strips, totally weighing 231.190 grams and valued at Rs.6,88,946 concealed in 2 photo frames and 3 eyeliner bottles kept in a carton box from the possession of a passenger named Abdur Rahman Kunnil Abdul Khader, who is a resident of KK House, Ward No 15, Theruvath, Koyas Lane, Thalangara Post, Kasargod district, Kerala and arrived at MIAt on Friday March 21 at about 04.45 hrs by Jet Airways fight 9W531 from Dubai.
Operations were conducted under the supervision of Krishna Kumar Prasad, Assistant Commissioner of Customs, MIA and were led by B Prabhakara Poojary, Superintendent along with Superintendents Lionel Fernandes, Sendhil Murugan, B.A.Kariappa, H G Yogesh and Inspectors G Kumaraswamy, K T Preethi Suma, S.Ranjan Behera and Ankit Kumar and Hawaldar Gulabi.
In both the cases it is noticed that the smugglers have resorted to unique methods of concealing the goods by fabricating/molding the gold in various shapes and concealing the same in their baggage.
