Bangalore, 15 February 2012: A 68-year-old mathematics teacher allegedly raped his 10-year-old student at KR Puram. The teacher has been arrested and sent to judicial custody.
The police gave the name of the accused as Krishnamurthy, a retired maths teacher at ITI. For the last month and a half, he was roped in as a parttime teacher at the Karnataka Nair Service Society Vidya Mandir.
The school, started in 2000 at TC Palya of Anandapura, KR Puram, runs classes from LKG to standard VI. The incident came to light when the victim complained of stomach ache. Her mother took her to the doctor and while examining, the doctor suspected something fishy. He managed to get the victim tell the truth. Margaret, the victim’s mother, has lodged a complaint with the police.
Margaret told the investigating officer: “For the last few weeks, my daughter used to complain of stomach ache, but never told me anything about the physical abuse. Now, after the doctor’s intervention, she has told the truth. I believe her maths teacher, on some pretext or the other, used to send the other children out of the classroom and order my daughter to write on the blackboard. When she walked up to the board, he would misbehave with her.”
The victim and Krishnamurthy were subjected to medical examination. Based on the doctor’s reports, the locality police have taken up a case.
School’s version
C Sreekantan Nair, one of the trustees of KNSS, told : “This is a false case and the teacher is falsely implicated. The truth will be out in a few days. I don’t know how someone can accuse this senior citizen of committing a heinous crime. It looks like someone is trying to tarnish the image of the school and the teacher.”
Teacher’s background
