New Delhi, 26 November 2011: Baba Ramdev was responsible for the chaos at Ramlila Maidan following his fast, Delhi Police told the Supreme Court on Friday. The police claimed that Ramdev’s behaviour led to a law and order problem at Ramlila Maidan.
According to the police Ramdev was given a permission to hold a yoga camp for 5,000 people, but very soon the numbers swelled to more than 50,000.
"We were never told that it was an anti-corruption gathering. It was Because of Baba Ramdev’s behaviour that police was forced to act. Delhi Police had just gone there to ask Baba Ramdev to vacate the premises. Delhi Police also had the fear of hooliganism, communal violence or any other untoward incident," said the police.
The case has been listed for hearing on Monday.
Earlier the Supreme Court had pulled up the Delhi Police for the June 4 midnight crackdown at the Ramlila Maidan. The apex had issued notices to the Union Home Secretary, Delhi Chief Secretary and the Delhi Police for the midnight swoop.
