Chennai, 06 March 2011: Ahead of the April 13 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, the Election Commission on Saturday said 50 companies of various central police forces will be deployed in several “sensitive” districts. Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar said each company would comprise 100 personnel.
“Today five companies of police personnel will be arriving and will be deployed in various districts which are said to be sensitive. Thirty more companies from CRPF, CISF and RPF will be arriving in another three days. The rest will be arriving before March 13,” he said.
In addition, for the first time, EC would appoint IG-level police officials from other states as election observers to monitor law and order, he said. Five officers would arrive next week for this purpose, he said.
Further, a toll-free number (1965) will be operational from today to receive poll-related complaints. SMSes will be sent to the district control room immediately, which in turn would inform the flying squad, he added.
