Manipal, 24 Apr 2024: Art can help cut the barriers of caste and religions, said two artists from Bihar – Shravan Kumar Paswan and Pavan Kumar. Speaking about Kobhar and Manjusha traditional art forms, under the auspices of Gandhian Centre for Philosophical Arts and Sciences (GCPAS), MAHE, the artists said though these traditional arts were initially confined to certain caste and religion, today one finds them being practiced beyond them. There is also certain interdependence among castes and religions in this art production process, they said.

Kobhar painting is part of the pre-wedding ritual. Manjusha painting has mythological themes. Bamboo brush and natural colours are usually used, they explained. The GCPAS Head Prof. Varadesh Hiregange, Dr. Janardhan Havanje, Dr. Rajaram Tolpadi and Dr. Bhramari Shivaprakash and others were present. There was also an exhibition of their paintings.
