M’lore: Father Muller Medical College Student Council 2013 -14 Inaugurated

Mangalore, 19 Oct 2013: The inauguration of the student council 2013- 2014 of Father Muller Medical College was held at decennial memorial hall, here on Friday October 18 at 3:30pm.
Dr Sushil Jathanna, director of Global Multispecialty Hospital and Athena Hospital and former CEO of National Health Service (NHS) Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom (UK) was the chief guest of the occasion.
Fr Patrick Rodrigues, director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions presided the function.
Fr Rudolph Ravi D’Sa, administrator of Father Muller Medical College and Dean Dr Jayaprakash Alva were also present on the occasion.
The student representatives Aneeshya Celes, Prachi Kelkar, Veronica Lobo, Priya Kamath were sworn in as the president,vice-president, general secretary and joint secretary of the student council respectively. Thoshna Prabhu, secretary for student development Committee, Nithi Prerana Luke, the magazine editor, Jidin John, secretary for technical Committee, Justin Thomas, secretary for sports Committee , Atul Abraham, secretary for media Committee, Vaishaka S Shetty, secretary for cultural Committee and Vinita Charlotte Vincet, secretary for fine arts Committee also took the oath as the members of the student council. This was led by Dr Jayaprakash Alva.
The new office bearers were announced Fr Rudolph Ravi D’ Sa, while Dr Jatthana handed over the badges.
Dr Sushil Jathanna while addressing the gathering spoke about the NHS in UK. He said, ‘It is different from India and is placed on 3 principles - free at the point of delivery, it is funded by general taxation and it is available to everyone. Nearly 78 percent of all surgery is done in day care and by community services. Quality is at a higher level and compulsory accreditation is essential for the hospitals,’ said Dr Sushil.
In terms of education, Dr Sushil said that more emphasis is given to learning than teaching on skill-based training.
Speaking on the occasion, Fr Patrick Rodrigues said, ‘The one who is the greatest among all must be a servant of all. True leadership is not about position or power but it is the dedication to provide service,’ said Fr Patrick. Fr Patrick advised the students to make use of their energies and position to do good to everyone.
