Udupi, 28 Apr 2013: BJP has been distributing derogatory handbills in a few areas across the city, with the fear of losing the upcoming assembly election. The police force is urged to take legal action against such people after a probe, urged Udupi block Congress to SP Dr Boralingaiah.
Addressing the media persons during a press meet held here on Saturday April 27, Udupi block Congress Committee secretary Janardhan Bhandarkar said that BJP has taken this subversive route fearing the outcome of assembly election. The BJP had also printed similar handbills, but the wise voters taught them a lesson by voting against, which would also repeat in this upcoming assembly election, said Bhandarkar.
The Congress activists nabbed a retired bank employee who is a BJP activist and was found distributing derogatory handbills during Congress road show in the city recently. He was later handed over to police custody. Similarly, a BJP activist was found distributing the handbills during a public meeting at Chittaranjan roundabout here, but he fled when he saw policemen. Both these incidences were reported to the police. Such handbills are also distributed in the localities of Badanidiyoor gram panchayat, added Bhandarkar.
Udupi block Congress leaders Kushala Shetty, Kirti Shetty, Ramesh Kanchan, Bhaskar Rao Kidiyoor and others were present at the press meet.
