Good Friday observed with devotion and piety

Chikkaballapur, 22 April 2011: Good Friday was observed at the Saint Francis Xavier Church in Chikkaballapur on Friday. A special mass was conducted and scores of believers were a part of the event. Hymns were recited and prayers were performed on the occasion. Excerpts were read from the Bible and the story of Jesus Christ’s life was read out to the crowd.
Speaking to Priest Arogya Das said that Good Friday is a religious holiday observed primarily by Christians commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary. Christians undertake a fast for 40 days prior to the occasion. Easter will be celebrated on Sunday.
Jesus rose from the dead on the third day after crucifixion. His resurrection is celebrated as Easter Sunday. A special programme will be conducted on Sunday, he added.
Butter milk was distributed among the devotees.
Church priests’ Alexander, Justin, Kristharaj, Vimal and others were present.
In Gauribidanur
Good Friday was observed at the Italing Memorial Church, located in the heart of the town on Friday.
A special mass was organised and scores of believers attended the event.
CSI Church, Italing memorial Church, Nagappa block Jerusalem Church observed Good Friday. Edward Anil, Secretary Jayaprakash, Rutam, Suresh and others took part in the ceremony.
