Lalaji R. Mendon inaugurates St. Lawrence PU College NSS Camp at Padubelle

Padubelle, 19 October 2010: The seven days NSS Annual Special Camp of St. Lawrence PU College, Moodubelle was inaugurated by Lalaji R. Mendon, MLA of the Kaup Constituency on Monday, 18th October 2010 at 4 pm in the premises of Shri Narayanaguru English Medium School, Padubelle in the presence of a number of dignitaries and 60 NSS volunteers and guests.
The inaugural function was presided over by Fr. Joswey Fernandes, parish priest and Correspondent of the parish educational institutions of Moodubelle. Following the welcome of the dignitaries and guests by Fr. Paul Sequeira, Principal of St. Lawrence PU College, the Annual Special Camp was formally inaugurated by Lalaji R. Mendon by lighting the lamp.
Speaking on this occasion, Lalaji R. Mendon said that the camp is a good opportunity for the students to develop a sense of community living and developing their leadership qualities and talents. Fr. Charles Lewis, parish priest of the Holy Cross Church, Pamboor in his message said that by leaving their own families for seven days in the camp they will be living like a large family and would develop a spirit of cooperation and mutual help. He wished the students good health and peace of mind. Shivaji Suvarna, Honorary Secretary of the Local Committee of the Billava Association said that the camp teaches the students how to ‘adjust’ in difficult conditions which would be very useful in their future lives. Jinaraj C. Salian, headmaster of Shri Narayanaguru English medium School assured full cooperation to the camp in whatever manner possible.
John Menezes, the former principal of St. Lawrence PU College addressing the students drew their attention to the motto of the camp-‘Nela-Jala-Vana, Namma Sampatthu’ (earth-water-forest, our wealth) and pointed out how the students can preserve this wealth which they have received from their forefathers for themselves and pass it on to the future generations. He also emphasised the fact that the full development of personality would be possible if each and every student volunteer imbibes in himself or herself the qualities of humility, obedience and discipline in this Annual Special Camp.
Fr. Joswey Fernandes in his presidential message referred to the prayer song that was sung by the NSS volunteers at the beginning of the inaugural function and pointed out that all the aims and objectives of the camp are included in that noble prayer song. He also made an appeal to the volunteers that they should effectively utilise the camp time for developing good qualities that would promote cooperation and community spirit and take the advantage of various programmes that have been devised for developing their personality and hidden talents. He wished the camp great success.
Besides the above dignitaries, the inaugural function was attended by Maurice Noronha, retired teacher from Pamboor Catholic Higher Primary School, Jayashankar, Vice President of the Managing Committee of Shri Narayanaguru English medium School, Nagaratna, retired Principal of PPC Junior College, Udupi and Devdas Hebbar, President of the Old Students Association of St. Lawrence Composite PU College, Moodubelle.
Edward Larsen D’Souza, the officer in charge of the NSS Unit of St. Lawrence PU College proposed the vote of thanks to all the dignitaries, guests and all those who have sponsored the camp. The programme was compeered by Navin Correa, deputy officer in charge of the NSS Unit.
