Udupi: RCI – Shirva Honors Freedom Fighter 95-Year-Old B Laxminarayan Sharma

Udupi, 10 Aug 2013: Rotary Club International (RCI) – Shirva felicitated ninety-five-year-old veteran freedom fighter Bantakal K Laxminarayan Sharma at his residence located at Arasikatte, Bantakal, near here on the occasion of Quit India Day celebration on Friday August 9.
Laxminarayan was basically from Kote village, Mattu, Katpady, born during 1917. He joined the freedom struggle abandoning his family, when he was influenced by the ideologies of Mahatma Gandhi, when the latter visited Sri Bhuvanendra Ayurveda Ashram, Katpady, near here during 1934. He was imprisoned by British rulers during Quit India Movement for many years.
Laxminarayan still feels the spark of freedom struggle when he speaks about his ordeal during Quit India Movement. Although, his memory power has diminished due to advanced age, he has the ability to speak lively. He also blessed the members of RCI – Shirva and commended their yeomen service to humanity.
RCI – Shirva president Leo Noronha, RCI district RTI Committee president B Pundalika Marate, former assistant governor K R Patkar, RCI – Shirva former president Dr Gururaj, Dr Arun Hegde, advocate Melvyn D’Souza, Sriram Marate and Laxminarayan’s son Justice K S Hegde MBA College Professor Dr Radhakrishna and couple was present at the occasion.
