Udupi, 26 May 2011: In the General Body Meeting of the Udupi Taluk Panchayat held recently it was unanimously resolved that there should be no disparities in extending the advantages of the beneficiary programmes offered to the students separately by Backward Castes and Minorities (BCM) and Social Welfare Departments.
The BCM and Social Welfare Department will give notebooks and other study materials to students as part of the government-sponsored programmes. The BCM department is spending Rs 150 on each student, while the Social Welfare department is extending Rs 200. The members are of the opinion that every student should get the same quality notebook irrespective of the department that offers the benefits.
The other issue that was discussed at the meeting was regarding the blue print for the Sthree Shakthi Bhavan and marketing stalls. President Devdas Hebbar informed that the plan had been finalized and the blue print sent to the ZP CEO for approval. He informed the meeting that some of the local banks and institutions have approached them for letting out to them on rental/lease and whoever gave the maximum rent would be allotted space.
Hebbar said the issue of staff shortage has been taken up in the zilla panchayath meeting and a decision has been taken on appointing the required number of staff. " Kaup Tourist Banglow will be renovated at a cost of Rs 1 lakh," informed executive officer Manjunathaiah. MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary urged the port and fisheries department to set right the list of beneficiaries under Mathsyashraya Yojane. He said projects under Jalanayana programmes should be taken up keeping in view that rural employment could be generated under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
