Ajekar records maximum rainfall in Karnataka

Udupi, 23 Oct 2012: Ajekar in Karkala taluk of Udupi district recorded maximum rainfall of 82mm in the last 24-hours in Karnataka up to 8.30am on Tuesday.Rainfall over Karnataka in the above 24-hours is considered as isolated since 11% of hoblis and gram panchayaths recorded rainfall greater than or equal to 2.5mm. Rainfall was widespread, fairly widespread and scattered respectively in one district each, isolated in 17; negligible in 10.

 

South-west monsoon was a ctive in one district; normal in three; and weak in 26 districts.H eavy, rather heavy and no rain respectively was recorded in one district each, moderate rain in 12; light rain in six; and very light rain in nine districts. Widespread, rather heavy rain was received in Dakshina Kannada district; fairly widespread, heavy rain in Udupi district; and scattered, moderate rain in Bidar district, KSNDMC, Bangalore stated.

 

Isolated, light to moderate rain was recorded in Kodagu, Bellary, Chikballapura, Koppal, Chamrajanagara, Ramnagara, Gulbarga, Hassan, Yadgir, Mandya, Belgaum, Bijapur, Raichur, Uttara Kannada, Tumkur, Bagalkot and Kolar districts. Dry weather condition prevailed in remaining parts of the state.

 

Karnataka for the period June 1 to October 23 has recorded deficit rainfall of 27%. Against normal weighted average rainfall of 946mm in south-interior, north-interior, malnad and coastal parts, the state recorded rainfall of 689mm. For 24-hours period ending 8.30am on October 23, the four geographical regions of Karnataka received 1.5mm actual weighted average rainfall against normal weighted average rainfall of 4.1mm, a deficit of 63%.
