Srinagar, 01 July 2011: The annual Amarnath pilgrimage was suspended on Friday morning due to bad weather along both the routes to the cave shrine in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district, police said.

"The yatra would be restored as soon as the weather improves in the area," a police officer said.
Over 35,000 people have already performed the pilgrimage that commenced June 29.

The 13,500 feet high Himalayan cave houses a stalagmite is believed to represent the mythical powers of Lord Shiva.
