Bangalore, 26 February 2011: The Indian team increased its intensity at training as Sunday’s World Cup game against England loomed large.
The full-strength squad had a long session at the KSCA (B) Ground here on Friday morning and there was a minor scare when Virender Sehwag was struck on his ribs.
The opener is fine and manager Ranjib Biswal said that there was no cause for concern.
Sehwag was batting against against Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, S. Sreesanth and a few local fast bowlers when he got injured. Suddenly a local net bowler’s delivery hit the good length area and reared up sharply to take Sehwag by surprise. The ball pinged into his left rib-cage and Sehwag moved away in discomfort. The ground staff immediately used the roller again to negate the pitch’s uneven bounce.
All the batsmen and bowlers participated in the nets while Munaf Patel struck to his fielding drills.
Nehra, who is recovering from a back spasm, operated from a full run-up though he had a brief stint. Nehra also batted and captain M.S. Dhoni humorously gesticulated, asking the seamer to play straight.
Tendulkar meanwhile did his stints against spin, pace and throw-downs and as the practice session wound to a close,
Yusuf Pathan, who was watching the proceedings was struck on the wrist by a drive from R. Ashwin. Pathan taped his wrist but the big-hitter appeared fine.
