Mangalore: Overwhelming response for World Heart Day Run organized by KMC Hospital

Mangalore, 26 September 2010: Thousands of people dressed in Red & white covered the streets of Mangalore to mark World Heart Day. World Heart Day, an initiative by World Heart Federation started in 2000 in order to create an awareness to the public a growing need to learn to live & eat healthy; to create an awareness on the growing number of people who die due to Heart Diseases; to create an awareness that if we start today we can prolong or reverse the effects of Cardiac diseases. KMC Hospital has been a part of this campaign for the Sixth year in succession.

 

Over the last five years KMC Hospital has had 3000 to 5000 plus people participating every year in the awareness run/walk. This year on 26th Sept’10, World Heart Day Run began from KMC Bejai to KMC Hospital Ambedkar circle at 7:30 a.m. The run/walk was routed via Lalbagh, M.G. road, PVS Circle, Bunts Hostel Circle. The event was flagged off by Sri.Krishna J Palemar, District Incharge Minister. Sri.Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP; Sri.Yogish Bhat, MLA Mangalore; Smt Mallika Prasad, MLA – Puttur; Mr.Seemanth Kumar Singh Police Commissioner, Mangalore; were the Guests of Honour for the occasion. The run/walk was led by Mangalore born 1st International Veteran Athletic Champion Mrs.Mary Hilda D’Souza who represented the country and won awards at the national and international level. Dignitaries from different walks of life also participated in this campaign held today.

 

 

Speaking on the occasion Mrs.Mallika Prasad thanked all the doctors from the department of Cardiology of KMC Hospital, Mangalore who were instrumental in saving her life. She remembered the care which she received when she was admitted recently in KMC Hospital for cardiac related problem.

 

Vikas College of Physiotherapy won the award for Best Institution Participation; Hindustan Unilever won the award for the Best Corporate Participation; Coast Guard of India won the award for Best Slogan Shouting; Vikas College of Physiotherapy also won the award for Best Placard. Master Lenn Sequeira 4 year old kid won the youngest participant award & Mrs Lily won the Eldest Participant award for her enthusiastic participation in this campaign proving that every young & elders alike enjoy to participate & mark such noble campaigns.

 

The winners of the Drawing Competition held on 18th Sept 2010: Group 1 Category - first prize of Rs.5001/- was won by Kum. Apeksha J. Goli, 7th STD - Canara Girls High School, Dongerkery; second prize of Rs.3001/- was won by Master Prajwal B. 6 STD - Canara Boys High School Main, Dongerekery; and the third prize of Rs.2001/- was won by Kum. M. Samyuktha Prabhu, 7 STD Sharada Vidyalaya, Kodialbail. 5 Consolation prizes of Rs.501/- was won by Master Amith V. Kamath, Kum. Vasudha Kumblekar, Master S. Sumith Kumar, Kum. Shreeraksha, Master Anirudh Kamath.

 

Group 2 Category - first prize of Rs.5001/- was won by Kum. U. Mangala Nayak, 9 STD - Canara Girls High School, Dongerkery; second prize of Rs.3001/- was won by Master Karthik S., 10 STD - St. Aloysius High School, Kodialbail; and the third prize of Rs.2001/- was won by Master Nikhilraj P., 10 STD - St. Aloysius High School, Kodialbail. 5 Consolation prizes of Rs.501/- was won by Kum. Manvitha M.K., Master Shubham R. Vernekar, Master Vaibhav Shenoy M.,Kum. Shreya P. Shetty,Kum. Smitha V. Kamath.
