Mother-daughter duo robbed by auto driver of Rs 7 lakh jewellry
Mangalore, 31 May 2013: Police are still in the lookout for three miscreants, who robbed gold ornaments and cash worth Rs 7 lakh from two Bangaloreans - KhalidaBegum (55) and daughter Farah Kouser (28) and on Thursday.
According to the police, the victims, residents of Vijaynagar in Bangalore arrived in Mangalore on Thursday early morning to attend their relative’s marriage and they were robbed by auto-rickshaw driver and his two accomplices. At the time of the incident, Farah’s son Mohammed Farhan (5) was also along with them.
The mother-daughter duo hired an auto-rickshaw around 5am from Jyothi Circle to travel to Bikkarnakatte, where their relatives are residing. The auto driver while travelling to Bikkarnakatte made a phone call and two of his accomplices joined him enroute. They took the victims to an isolated place and robbed them at knife point.
The two miscreants physically assaulted Khalida and Farma and robbed gold ornaments and Rs 5,000 cash from them.
Asif Iqbal, husband of Farah told TOI: His mother in law and wife were in a daze when the bus dropped them at Jyothi Circle. They could not find an auto stand hence they started walking. Within a minute an auto came from behind and inquired where they had to go. The driver agreed to take them to Bikkarnakatte and enroute he made a call. A minute after the call, one person with his face covered with handkerchief joined him and sat in front and later another joined who sat at the back. They took them to an isolated place, threatened and robbed them,’’ he said.
Asif said since they did not want to risk keep jewellry in the bag, they had worn on them. Later the woman took another auto and reached Bikkarnakatte, not before one auto driver refusing to take them seeing the scratches on their hand.
A complaint has been registered at Mangalore north police station.
