Udupi: Nagarika Samiti conducts unique protest

Udupi, 26 May 2012: Protesting the raise of petrol – diesel price for the 9th time by UPA government, Udupi District Nagarika Samiti conducted protest in a unique way. They tied a motor bike to a long wooden stick and lifting it they conducted procession from Taluk Office up to the Gandhi statue near service bus stand. Along with that they beat the drums (dole) which is traditionally beaten during funeral in the coastal areas.
Speaking on the occasion Chief Secretary of Nagarika Samiti Nityananda Volakadu said that, the central government instead of raising again and again like stabbing from back, it is better to kill at once. Crores of people in the country travel around daily by autorickshaw and taxis and crores of people use two wheelers and crores of people depend on the vehicles. All of them will have huge impact by the raise of this fuel price, he said.
In the protest Prabhakara Acharya, Raghavendra Shet, Jayaprakash Acharya, Umesh Bantakal, Satish Nayak, Sudhakar and others had participated. In Udupi people do not participate in any protest conducted for people. Even the autorickshaw - taxi drivers did not join the protest in spite of the request by Nityananda Volakadu.
