Udupi, 12 September 2011: After 14 years of establishing the Udupi district, now there is once again an opportunity to establish the exclusive District Central Cooperative Bank (DCCB). In 2009 itself there were instructions from the state government for this. But there was stay order from the high court even before the formalities were completed. Now this stay order has been cleared by the high court. Hence the state BJP government has issued instructions to establish the exclusive DCC Bank for the district. Raghupathi Bhat who has been insisting on the establishment of this Bank, released the details in a press conference held in the party district office along with other party district leaders on Sunday.

Among the 7 districts established in 1997, the state government in 1998 had formed a committee presided by R. Sunderavaradan to study the possibilities of establishing the exclusive DCC Banks in these districts. In the report furnished by this committee it was mentioned that Udupi district has the eligibility for an exclusive DCC Bank and the district has the financial stability for this.

Udupi district is under the jurisdiction of D.K. DCC Bank, so the D.K. DCC Bank had to be divided and Udupi DCC Bank was to be established. The proposal for the division was proposed during 1999 and 2004 during the D.K. DCC Bank meetings. But even though the recommendation was given in the R. Sunderavaradan committee, the approval was not grated in the meeting.

Again in 2008 during the meeting the proposal was made and for this among the DCC members the majority voting was required. But among the 574 members 412 members voted against it, so the approval for the exclusive Udupi DCC Bank was not obtained.

But this decision has been preventing the smooth operation of the Cooperative Societies of both the districts and besides dividing the DCC Bank will not have any effect on the financial status. Hence with the intention of the progress of the districts, the government has issued instructions to establish the exclusive DCC Bank in Udupi district.

However, while this instruction was being implemented those who opposed the exclusive DCC Bank brought the stay order on 2nd February. The investigation was conducted on this and finally on 11th August the stay order has been cancelled said MLA Raghupathi Bhat. In the press conference the BJP leaders; Somashekara Bhat, BJP Jilla President Udayakumar Shetty, Nunicipal Corporation member Mohan Upadya, D.K. Fisheries Federation President Yashpala Suvarna, were present.
