Udupi/M’Belle: In an exciting finale Dendoor Friends claim Mercy Trophy 2015

Udupi, 28 Dec 2014: In an exciting finale, Dendoor Friends claimed Mercy Trophy 2015 defeating Moodubelle Junior Cricketer (MJC) in the limited overs Cricket Tournament held on Sunday, 28 December 2014 from 9 am to 5 pm in St. Lawrence PU College Ground Moodubelle.
Chasing the formidable scores of 46 in four overs, Dendoor Friends seemed to have lost the game when in the last over the team required to score 27 runs. At this juncture, Dendoor Friends batsman Nazir blasted four sixes and one four in the last over winning the tournament and the Mercy Trophy 2015 in an exciting finish. Sixteen teams had participated in the tournament.
The Mercy Trophy 2015 cricket tournament was inaugurated in the morning at 9 am by Rajendra Shetty-President of Belle Grama Panchayat, Casmir Menezes-father of Ivan Menezes one of the organizers of the tournament, Wilfred Menezes-Managing Director of Omnitech and the chief sponsor of the tournament, Glenjoy Alva-President of ICYM Moodubelle Unit and Ivan Menezes. Lloyd Rebello compeered the inaugural programme. Ivan Menezes welcomed the gathering and Cyprian Castelino proposed the vote of thanks.
The valedictory function was held at 5 pm. Elias D’Souza-former President of Bellevision (UAE) and proprietor of Civitech, Udupi was the chief guest. Other guests of honour included Baptist Sequeira-former President of Bellevision (Bahrain), Valerian Fernandes, Vincent Fernandes and Glenjoy Alva.
Elias D’Souza distributed financial assistance to six needy families on behalf of the Mercy Trophy 2015 organizers. Since the last three years, Mercy Trophy Cricket Tournament has been organized in order to promote rural cricketing talent and to provide financial assistance in the form of pension to some of the impoverished families. This is the fourth year of the Mercy Trophy Cricket Tournament.
The dignitaries on the dais gave away individual prizes to those cricketers who had put in their best performance. Best Bowler-Sudhir of MJC, Best Batsman and Man of the Match-Nazir of Dendoor Friends.
The Runners Up Mercy Trophy-2015 and Rs.3000/- cash prize was awarded to Moodubelle Junior Cricketers (MJC).
The Champions Mercy Trophy-2015 and Rs. 5000/- cash prize was given to Dendoor Friends Team.
The valedictory function was compeered by Cyprian Castelino and Ivan Menezes thanked all those who had been responsible for the success of the Mercy Trophy-2015 Cricket Tournament.

Great event. Mercy trophy organisers really doen well. We hardly find any cricket tournament in belle in recent years. Mercy trophy organisers arranging from past 3 years is a great job. These days everyone busy with playing politics. So no time to play games like cricket. | |
