Udupi: Independence Day celebrated in Belle St. Lawrence Parish and Educational Institutions

Udupi, 15 Aug 2014: The 68th Independence Day of India was celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervour in St. Lawrence Parish and Educational Institutions. The respite from incessant rains of the previous days enabled a large number of parishioners, students and staff members to attend the Independence day celebration.
Independence Day Celebration in St. Lawrence Church by ICYM:
The ICYM Unit of Moodubelle celebrated the Independence Day in front of the Church soon after the 7.30 am mass observing the Feast of the ‘Assumption of Our Lady into Heaven’. Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes, parish priest of Moodubelle hoisted the national flag. The programme was compeered by Joyson D’Souza, Glern Joy Alva, president of ICYM Moodubelle Unit welcomed the guests and gathering, Ms. Doylin Monis who organized the Flag Hoisting function proposed the vote of thanks.
Rev. Fr. Josey Fernandes in his Independence Day message asked the youth to imbibe the virtues of discipline and commitment in order to enjoy the fruits of true independence.
As a mark of the Independence Day celebration, the ICYM organized the ‘Vanamahotsava’ and planted a Christmas Tree near the newly built Grotto. Besides Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes, Rev. Fr. Roshan D’Souza-assistant parish priest, rev. Fr. Reginald Pinto, Rev. Fr. P. Raj, Alphonse K. Alva-vice president of the Parish Pastoral Council and Mrs. Emilia Noronha-secretary, Vincent Fernandes-Animator of ICYM-Moodubelle, Maxim D’Sa-Animator of ICYM-Udupi Varado, Joseph Martis-member of the Youth Welfare Committee along with a large number of parishioners were present.
St. Lawrence PU College and HighSchool:
In St. Lawrence PU College and High school, the flag hoisting ceremony was held at 9.30 am. Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes-Correspondent of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions hoisted the national flag and delivered the Independence Day Message.
Besides Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes, Rev. Fr. Paul Sequeira-Principal of St. Lawrence PU College, Mrs. Sarojini Kamath-Senior Teacher of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School, Alphonse K. Alva-Vice President of Parish pastoral Council, J.B. Miranda-member of the Managing Committee and Joseph Martis-President of Parents-Teachers Association were present.
Following the flag hoisting ceremony, cultural programme was held inside the PU College Hall. Mrs. Shanta Nayak-Manager of the Corporation Bank, Naalku Beedhi was the chief guest of the function.
St. Lawrence English Medium High School:
The flag hoisting ceremony in St. Lawrence English Medium High School was held at 9.30 am. Rev. Fr. Roshan D’Souza-Assistant Parish Priest hoisted the national flag and delivered Independence Day Message. Mr and Mrs. Bernard D’Souza were the chief guests. Rev. Fr. P. Raj-Principal of St. Lawrence English Medium High School, Mrs. Shanti Alva and Mrs. Gladys Rebello-respectively President and Vice President of the Parents-Teachers Association were also present.
Following the flag hoisting ceremony, stage and cultural programme was held in the school hall. Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes presided over the stage programme. Rev. Fr. Reginald Pinto-Director of ‘Sampada’-Udupi Diocese and Alphonse K. Alva along with Rev. Fr. P. Raj, Mr. Bernard D’Souza, Mrs. Shanti Alva and Mrs. Gladys Rebello were on the dais.
Rev. Fr. P. Raj introduced the chief guest of the day, Mr. Bernard D’Souza and thanked him for donating computers to the computer lab. He also mentioned that Mr. Benedict Martis has also donated computer to the school. Mr. Bernard D’Souza was honoured by Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes along with other dignitaries on the dais.
Divita Lobo read out her speech on the occasion of the independence day celebration. Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes delivered the independence day message.
The Old Students Association of St. Lawrence English Medium High School was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes by lighting the lamp along with some of the old students who were present and dignitaries son the dais. Ms. Felina D’Souza, on behalf of the Old Students assured support and help to various activities of the school.
Students right from Lower KG to high school presented various cultural programmes befitting the independence day celebration. There were dances, group songs and depiction of the progress of Indian history from ancient times to modern day.
Shalini D’Almeida compeered rthe stage programme; School Pupil Leader (SPL) Aditya welcomed the guests and Ashish Menezes anchored the cultural programme.
Church Aided Higher Primary School and St. Lawrence College:
The Independence Day was celebrated jointly celebrated by the Church Aided Higher Primary School and St. Lawrence Degree College in the school premises at 9 am. Sylvester Mathias, headmaster of the higher primary school hoisted the national flag. Mrs. Sarita D’Souza-Principal of St. Lawrence Degree College delivered the independence day message.
Rajendra Shetty-President of Belle Grama Panchayat, Gerald Fernandes-former member of the udupi Zilla Panchayat, Ivan D’Almida and Sufhakar were present during the occasion.

The President of Belle Grama Panchayat, Rajendra Shetty, PDO-Mrs. Benny Quadros, Udupi Taluk Panchayat member-Devdas Hebbar, Lions Club Moodubelle President-Elias Lobo and headmaster of Church Aided Higher Primary School, Sylvester Mathias were present for the flag hoisting.
Rajendra Shetty hoisted the flag and gave away independence day message. Mrs. Benny Quadros compeered the programme and Sashidhar Wagle proposed the vote of thanks.
Kappandakarya Yuvaka Mandala:

President of Kappandakarya Yuvaka Mandala-Ivan D’Almeida hoisted the national flag. Satish Kumar-chief secretary and Bhaskar-joint secretary, Anil Alva-treasurer of the mandala along with other members of the mandala, members of the Swasahaya Group were present on this occasion.
