Humid weather adds to swine flu risk across India

New Delhi, 13 August 2010: Swine flu scare is back in this country with new cases being reported throughout the country every day. The situation is worst in the national capital with as many as 254 swine flu cases reported in the state. On Thursday 4 persons died and as many as 20 others tested positive. Health officials fear that the number of cases of swine flu might increase because of high humidity.
H1N1 cases continue to spiral in Maharashtra, the state that had reported the maximum number of casualties in the country last year. The flu has claimed 8 lives so far, including that of a 10-month-old baby in Pune. The state government has not issued any notification about anti-swine flu vaccines as yet, even though apart from the casualties, as many as 46 others have tested positive for swine flu.
The deadly virus has not spared Uttar Pradesh with 25 cases reported in the state capital Lucknow. Five persons have fallen victims of swine flu in this state so far.
Orissa, the state that saw 7 swine flu deaths in the past 11 days, has issued government notification instructing district collectors to restrict public gatherings.
In Gujarat 85 have tested positive for swine flu, while 18 have fallen its victim in the past two months. In Rajasthan two new swine flu cases were reported and 15 in Andhra Pradesh.
