Mangalore, 11 Aug 2013: All India Congress Committee (AICC) member P V Mohan on Saturday August 10, led a delegation of party men on a study tour to Niddody, near here, where it was proposed to set up ultra mega thermal power plant.

The group was taken on a tour by Niddodi - Krushi Bhoomi Samrakshana Samiti on the fertile region of Niddody, where the farmers grow 3 crops a year since several centuries.

The central study team that had visited the location in the past mentioned that a large portion of the landholding is barren land, which necessitated P V Mohan led party men to go on study tour in the vast land that comes under the jurisdiction of Niddody.

Speaking to Bellevision.com, Niddodi - Krushi Bhoomi Samrakshana Samiti president Alphonse D’Souza said that they wanted to ensure that the proposed thermal plant, in fact will be developed in fertile farmlands, and the entire peasants’ fraternity will never give up their lands in any case, even with promises of higher compensation.

Meanwhile, the delegation covered the region about a quarter from 11.30am to 3.30pm on Saturday.  The initial land acquisitions required is 1,500 acres on first phase and further extended to 2,500 acres and finally cover 8,000 acres.

P V Mohan said that whatever the exact findings will be put into the report and submitted to veteran Congress leader Oscar Fernandes, who has entrusted him the task.

Veteran Niddodi - Krushi Bhoomi Samrakshana Samiti president Alphonse D’Souza, executive president Poovappa Gowda, secretary Kiran Manjanabail, Kallamundkoor gram panchayat president Joachim Correa and 25 local farmers were present on the occasion.

I hope, P V Mohan mentions exact things that he saw on the fertile fields, where we have grown up and cannot imagine to elsewhere. The thermal project is not suitable in Niddody because that would be suicidal for us.

We are agriculture labourers working in fields in Niddodi since many generations. We cannot imagine someone takes away our livelihood. P V Mohan, please help us in clearing the wrong notion in the minds of bosses in New Delhi and allow us to live in peace.
