Dubai: Choice Cricketers Mangalore won the coveted USWAS TROPHY

Dubai,21 Oct 2012: Choice Cricketers Mangalore  won  the coveted  USWAS TROPHY -2012, a 11 side MRE Tennis Ball Cricket tournament   played at Zabeel Park Cricket Ground on Friday, 19th October.  On a beautiful & sunny fantastic atmosphere, USWAS TROPHY-2012 was   organized by  USWAS-SHIRVA (U.A.E) an association of Shirva Parishioners residing in U.A.E  as part of  it’s  year long Decennial  Year Celebration programs.  An exciting game of final  was played  between Choice Cricketers  Mangalore  and Gulf  Mangalorean Cricketers (GMC)  for the coveted USWAS TROPHY-2012 with a cash prize of Dhs. 3,333.00  sponsored by Blen & Lavisha Quadras-Abu Dhabi.  Choice Cricketers won the tournament by virtue of losing  less no. of wickets  in  a  tied  final match against GMC.  While batting first under lights GMC  scored 28 runs losing  8 wickets in  their allotted 5 overs.  Choice Cricketers  also scored 28 runs losing only 2 wickets in their innings while chasing GMC’s score.  GMC was awarded the USWAS RUNNERS-UP TROPHY with a cash prize of Dhs. 2,222.00 sponsored by Seamark Shipping LLC.

 

In the final match, for GMC  Anil, Loyal, Inas  and Lancy contributed  with the bat against a tight bowling by Choice Cricketer’s Melwyn & Arun who claimed 4 wickets including a hatrick in the final over. Arun  was rightly adjudged man of the match of  the Final.  Chasing second, Choice cricketers began confidently, but some excellent bowling combined with equally fine fielding by GMC players restricted the runs for Choice Cricketers.  Youngster Keith bowled beautifully  for GMC along with Loyal and Lancy who bowled the  tight  last over of the match to restrict Choice Cricketers  for 28 runs.  Choice cricketers had lost only  2 wickets in the form of Cleevan and Godwin, both of them  had batted brilliantly throughout the tournament along with contributions from Sanjay and Neville.

 

USWAS-SHIRVA president welcomed the participating teams and gathering in the morning. A total no. 16 teams took part in the day-night tournament. First match was played between  Lourdes Kanajar Association Emirates and Bellevision at 8.00 am.  Bellevision won the match while chasing.  The tournament was inaugurated by Mr. Jay Kumar of Silvertech Engineering  and  Mr. Paul Menezes – Ex President and Senior member of USWAS in the morning session.  All the  Pool A matches were played out in the morning session reaching Choice Cricketers and Bellevision  for Semi-Finals.  Afternoon  session saw some excellent cricket from Pool B teams,  out of which GMC and Surathkal Stars qualified  for the Semi-Finals.  In the semi-finals Choice Cricketers beat Bellevision and Surathkal Stars lost yet another semi-final match against GMC.  Mr. Rohan Lasrado of Eagles Shirva Abudhabi was the highest scorer in a single innings who scored 34 runs against Broadway Cricketers in the first round.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sponsors and supporters of USWAS TROPHY-2012, Mr. Jaykumar of Silvertech Engineering, Mr. Joseph Mathias of Merit Freights Systems,  Mr.  Walter Mathias & Family, Mr. Agenl D’souza of ABL, representatives of Caesars Restaurant & Confectioneries, Seamark Shipping LLC   and main sponsor  Mrs. Laveena Quadros-Abu Dhabi were present during the event.  Presentation ceremony was held after the finals  at 9 pm.  Choice Cricketers collected the USWAS-TROPHY 2012 and Dhs. 3,333.00 from Mrs. Laveena Quadros, Abu Dhabi who was personally present. Gulf Mangalorean Cricketers collected the USWAS RUNNERS-UP TROPHY and Dhs. 2,222.00 from the representatives of  Seamark Shipping LLC.  Mr. Arun of Choice Cricketers collected the man of the match award of the final along with cash prize of Rs. 1,000 from Main Umpires Mr. Gulzar Khan and Mr. Vincent Pereira.  Melwyn of Choice Cricketers  got the Best Bowler of the Tournament along with a cash prize of Rs. 1,250 from  sponsor Mr. Walter Mathias-Shirva. Cleevan  Mendonca of Choice Cricketers was adjudged as the best batsman of the tournament and collected the award with a cash prize of Rs. 1,250 from Mrs. Laveen Quadros.  Man of the series  along with a cash prize  of Rs. 1,500 was awarded to Loyal of GMC for his all-round performance  from Mr. Vincent Corda. A total no. of 15 Man of the Match awards for each match was given to the best performers along with cash prize of Rs. 1,000. 

 

Snacks, water, soft-drinks and juices were served to players and spectators throughout the day-night event.  A  delicious Lunch prepared by Quick Byte Restaurant was served to everyone present at the venue.  Entertaining  running commentary was provided by Rodney Moras, Ravish Pinto-Kateel, Dony Correa, Micky Castelino,  Prakash D’souza Damaskatte, Cleevan, Paul Paladka and Vinay Paladka. Scoring was done by Denis Gomes, Ragavendra Shenoy, Lesly Saldanha, Ivan Quadras, Merwyn, Joel Tauro & Denson Mathias.  Umpires for the tournament were Gulzar Khan, Vincent Pereira, Roshan Menezes, Vinod D’souza, Vinesh D’souza, Elias Fernandes, Lesly Saldanha &  Ivan Quadros.  Guess the winning team contest was held for the spectators. Mr. Peter D’souza won the gift voucher sponsored by Caesars Restaurant & Confectioneries.  The entire tournament was abley organized by USWAS-SHIRVA committee members.  Organizers USWAS-SHIRVA  have  managed the entire days proceedings with utmost  professional way. The event concluded with a thanksgiving prayer of  patron of Shirva Saude Mai.
