Puttur: Samskritika Sourabha held at St Philomena College

Puttur, 21 Sep 2017: St Philomena College, in association with the department of Kannada and Samskriti of government of Karnataka organized ‘Samskritika Sourabha’ cultural extravaganza at College auditorium, here, on September 18.
Dakshina Kannada ZP president Meenakshi Shanthigodu inaugurated the programme and said, ‘Our Dakshina Kannada district is very popularly known as the cradle of rich cultural heritage of Karnataka. Here various forms of folk dances like Pili Vesha (Tiger dance), Karadi Vesha (Bear dance) etc, are performed in a fascinating manner during certain special occasions. It is the duty of every one to preserve and promote our unique cultural heritage.’
The president of Puttur taluk panchayath Bhavani Chidananda, principal Professor Leo Noronha and campus director Fr Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro participated as the chief guests.
The president of Puttur municipal council Jayanthi Balnadu presided the programme.
This daylong cultural presentation ‘Samskritika Sourabha’ by the senior artistes of DK district included Karnataka saxophone music by Chandrashekhara Kananthoor and group Hindustani music by Vibha Nayak Mangaluru and group, light music by Jagadisha Acharya Puttur and group, Folk song by Shivananda Shenoy Puttur and group, Group dance by Vidwan U K Praveen Mangaluru and group, Veeragase by Ramesh B K Vittal and group, Tiger dance by Vijay R Beltangady and group, Drama by Mallika Shetty Siddakatte and group, Gamaka Vachana by Yajnesh Hosabettu and group.
The members of Performing Arts Association rendered the prayer. The assistant director, department of Kannada and Samskriti, DK district Chandrahasa Rai B delivered the preliminary address.
The Student Welfare Officer Dr Vijaya Kumar M welcomed the gathering. The Assistant Professor of Commerce Dinakara proposed the vote of thanks. The Student Welfare Officer Bharathi S Rai coordinated the programme. The Assistant Professor of business administration Prashanth Rai compered the programme.
