Vittal, 23 Aug 2017: The destruction of plantation that was grown by Theresa, living at the limits of Ammunje gram panchayat, in Bantwal taluk, in a small patch of Kumki land that lies besides her Varga land, using earthmovers is condemnable, said DK district Raita Sangha Hasiru Sene president Sridar Shetty Bailuguttu.
Addressing the media persons during a press meet, Sridar said that Kumki land was used for farming since many generations. Despite this, the plantation has been bulldozed by Bantwal Tahsildar and revenue inspector with heavy police security without serving notice.
DK district Raita Sangha Hasiru Sene secretary Manohar Shetty Nadikambalaguttu said that Theresa had applied to legalize the Kumki land, while the demolition was done at the pretext of decision taken by Ammunje gram panchayat citing it was for meant for housing site. The law-suit has been filed in court against this decision. The seventy-five-year-old Theresa fell unconscious, when palm, areca plants and cashew plants were bulldozed.

Such incidents are occurring on the verbal orders of peoples’ representatives in Dakshina Kannada. A separate law-suit has been filed in Karnataka HC in this regard. If these incidents are repeated, sit-in will be held in front of the office of DK district Deputy Commissioner at the leadership of Raita Sangha Karnataka state president Kodihalli Chandrashekar, cautioned Manohar.
