71st Independence Day Celebrated in St. Lawrence Institutions with Nationalistic and Patriotic Fervo

Udupi/Moodubelle, 15 August 2017: Seventy First Independence Day was celebrated with nationalistic and patriotic fervour in St. Lawrence Church, St. Lawrence Educational Institutions and Lions Club, Moodubelle.

St. Lawrence Church:

Soon after the solemn mass of of the feast of the Assumption of Mother Mary into Heaven offered by Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, Parish Priest of Moodubelle along with Fr. Maxim Pinto (OFM Cap) at 8 o’clock, Flag Hoisting function was organized by the ICYM Unit of Moodubelle. Dr. Eugene DSouza was the chief guest of the flag hoisting function. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, Fr. Lawrence Cutinha-Assistant Parish priest, Fr. Maxim Pinto,  Vincent Fernandes-Vice President and Mrs. Latha D’Mello-Secretary of the Parish pastoral Council, office bearers and members of the ICYM as well as a large number of parishioners were present.

 

After unfurling of the National Tricolour, Dr. Eugene DSouza in his Independence Day message breifly narrated the struggle for freedom agains the British imperialism, the progress that has been made by independent India during the last 70 years and problems that are being faced by the nation. He said that as in the life of an individual there are ups and downs in the life of a nation. We should hope that the dark clouds of terrorism, corruption, communalism and atrocities against the women would pass away. We should have faith in our Constitution and fulfill our duties and fight for our rights.

Belle Church Aided Higher Primary School:

Fr. Clement Mascarenhas unfurled the National Flag and gave the Independence Day message to the students. Mario Mathias, Manager of Syndicate Bank, Moodubelle was the chief guest. Gerald Fernandes, President of the Lions Club, Moodueblle was the guest of honour.Sr. Irene Viegas, Headmistress of the School welcomed the guests. The students sang partiotic songs and National Anthem and performed mass drill.

St. Lawrence Composite PU College:

The Independence Day was collectively celebrated by St. Lawrence PU College and St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School. Dr. Jayaprakash Bhat was the chief guest of the function. Fr. Lawrence Cutinha, Naveen Correa-Principal of St. Lawrence PU College and Mrs. Leena D’Silva-Headmistress of St.Lawrence Kannada Medium High School and staff members and students of both institutions were present. After unfurling of the flag, Dr. Jayaprakash Bhat delivered the Independence Day Message.

St. Lawrence English Medium High School:

Fr. Clement Mascarenhas was the chief guest at the Independence Day celebration at St. Lawrence English Medium High School. Headmistress Mrs. Veera Fernandes and staff members along with the students were present for the function. After the unfurling of the flag by Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, the studnts sang the National Anthem and other patriotic songs. In his Independence Day Message, Fr. Clement Mascarenhas asked the students to fulifill their duty as good students and responsible citizens of the great Indian Nation. 

 

Lions Club-Lions Seva Bhavan

President of the Lions Club, Moodubelle, Ln. Gerald Fernandes unfurled the National Flag on the terrace of the Lions Seva Bhavan and gave Independence Day Message. Secretary Ln. Henry Fernandes, Treasurer Ln. Vinod Castelino, Lion District Cabinet member Ln. Elias Lobo and Regional Advisor Ln. Devdas Hebbar as well as a number of Lions members were present. Ln. Devdas Hebbar compeered the programme.
