Mangaluru: MLA J R Lobo inaugurates Kasaba - Bengre ferry ticket counter

Mangaluru, 14 Aug 2017: The people in Kasaba – Bengre localities are poor and hard workers. They are engaged in fisheries for their livelihood that they manage with risking their lives both in estuary and sea. The island of Kasaba – Bengre need basic facilities, while a ferry berth has been constructed and there was the need for ticket counter that was constructed at a cost of Rs 6 lac by port department which I offer unto society, said Mangaluru south MLA J R Lobo.
MLA Lobo was speaking after inaugurating the new ticket counter that was constructed at ferry berth to take locals to and from Kasaba – Bengre to mainland Mangaluru old port, during the function held here, on Saturday, August 12.
He further said, ‘The people living in Kasaba – Bengre without title deeds for their houses. Meanwhile, the process of issuing the title deeds is in progress that will be issued shortly. Karnataka CM, revenue minister and public works minister will be invited to distribute the title deeds. The locality also need berth for country boats, while a proposal has been forwarded to state administration to construct the same at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore. The road to Kasaba – Bengre has been concreted at a cost of Rs 25 lac, and concreting the peripheral roads will be the top priority. The state administration awarded Rs 50,000 each to 60 beneficiaries in the locality under Shrama Shakti Yojana,’ said MLA Lobo.
Besides, a service road will be laid to link NMPT with Old Port under state government’s ambitious project Sagaramala in the coming days that would be boon for tourism, added MLA Lobo.
The corporator Meera Karkera, masjid president Mohammed Aslam, Abdul Rehman Khatib, Bengre ward president Asif Ahmed, Shekar Suvarna, KSRTC director T K Sudhir, Bilal Moideen, Ismail, Suleiman K B R, Edu Kunhi, P P Mustafa, Sadiq, village accountant Avinash and others were present.
