Beltangady: SKDRDP launches forestry campaign to promote health

Beltangady, 23 Jul 2017: It’s essential to nurture the saplings that are already planted than plant new saplings. Karnataka needs 33 percent of green cover to sustain, that now stands at 23 percent. The forest is essential for healthy living, said deputy conservator of forests Dr Karikalan.
Dr Karikalan was speaking during forestry campaign that was organized by Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) at Niddle Government High School, near here, on Saturday, July 22.
The proportion of rains has come down in the recent past. We need forests to sustain living and wild animals, said Dr Karikalan.
SKDRDP CEO Dr L H Manunat said that SKDRDP embarked on forestry campaign across Karnataka. One-hundred-ten nature ponds were rejuvenated and 32 lac saplings were planted, said Dr Karikalan.
Beltangady MLA K Vasant Bangera advised the farmers to achieve self sufficiency by growing multiple crops that is much profitable.
ZP member Koragappa Naik, TP vice president Vedavati, Niddle Government School headmaster Rajaguru Hebbar was present.
The saplings were distributed the students to plant at their household.
Jayakar Shetty welcomed the gathering. The teacher Sholly D V proposed vote of thanks.
