Aadhaar and Bank Account must for NCC Cadets

Bangalore: Henceforth, youngsters enrolling themselves in the National Cadet Corps (NCC) will have to furnish their Aadhaar number, mobile number and also open a bank account.
The NCC Directorate of Karnataka and Goa will be asking all candidates who want to enroll themselves with the voluntary organisation from this year onwards to furnish the above. “We will be insisting that the cadets have Aadhaar number, mobile number and a bank account. This is to ensure that the cash incentives which the government gives to the cadets reach them directly and there is no leakage enroute,” said Air Commodore C Rajeev, deputy director-general, NCC Directorate of Karnataka and Goa.
As the academic year has just begun, NCC enrolment will start soon. There are about 75,000 cadets in Karnataka and about 30,000 new cadets are expected to enroll this year. “We plan to complete the enrolment by September and hope that about 80 per cent of the cadets furnish the details sought by us. Exceptions would be made for cadets from rural areas as some of them come from very poor backgrounds. Even in their cases, we want at least an elder family member of theirs to have a bank account. In the next three to four years, we want to make it 100 per cent,” said Rajeev.
Cadets receive various cash incentives from the state government and the DG, NCC. He added that the initiative was being done purely to ensure that there is no misuse of cash and that it is transferred directly to the cadets accounts. Digital transactions are one of the activities of NCC’s social service and community development along with Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan and Yoga. “The PMO’s thrust is on Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, Yoga and digital payments. In fact, post-demonisation, we have been encouraging cadets to adapt to digital transactions. Since February, cadets have been asked to popularise cashless transactions and to opt for the BHIM app among hawkers, small shops and business establishment,” he added.
