Ashraf’s slain case; police form 5 teams to nab accused

Bantwal, 23 Jun 2017: The tense situation that prevailed after the murder of an auto rickshaw driver Ashraf, at Benjanapadav, near here, on Wednesday, June 21, returned to normal on Friday, June 23. The shopkeepers in B C Road, Kaikamba, Farangipet, Thumbe, Melkar, Kalladka, Mani and other areas voluntarily shut their shops. The police shut down the shops in Kalladka, the most communally-sensitive town, as precautionary measure.
IGP Hariharan, DK new SP Sudhir Kumar Reddy, exiting SP Bhushan G Borase, Chikmagaluru SP Annamalai are camping in Bantwal town police station to monitor the law and order situation.
SP Annamalai who was assigned special security duty, visited the trouble-ridden areas and normalcy has returned.
ADGP Alok Mohan also discussed the security with police officers at Bantwal town police station.
The mortal remains of Ashraf was buried at Jumma masjid burial ground at Kalai, after the post-mortem. Thousands of people gathered at the spot, with police provided heavy security.
The police formed 5 special teams including DCIB to nab the accused related to Ashraf’s murder. Many people are being taken into custody on suspicions, while the investigations are focussed on past enmity and other aspects. The police are hopeful to arrest the accused at the earliest.
The prohibitary orders are extended till June 27 from June 21.
