Mumbai: Mangaluru-bound woman passenger robbed of jewelry in Matsyagandha Express

Mumbai, 26 May 2017: A woman passenger was robbed of her jewelry whilst traveling in Matsyagandha Express train service of Konkan Railway (KR) from Kurla Terminus to Mangaluru Central, being reported on Monday, May 22 afternoon.

 

Pratima Satish Karkera, is the resident of passenger arrived at Kurla Terminus, here, to travel to her native Suratkal, Mangaluru town. Her brother-in-law Harish Poojary found her seat and bid her good bye. While she was seated holding her handbag that had jewelry, a youngster snatched her handbag and jumped out of the train at Vidyavihar junction.

 

 

Pratima had recently bought mangalsutra weighing 70 grams and earrings weighing 10 grams that was in the handbag along with cash money of Rs 7,000, Rs 5,000 that was given by her friend to handover to their parents, and a mobile.

 

The co-passenger Rao family offered their mobile to Pratima, in order to report the incident to her husband Satish and brother-in-law Harish.  Other passengers alerted the engine-driver to stop the train that was stopped at Ghatkopar, but in vain. She got down the train at Thane railway station and lodged complaint with railway police. GRP railway inspector Ashok Borade of Kurla terminus registered the case and investigations are underway.

 

It’s the practice to lay the new jewelry in front of their deity at native town, while Pratima who dreamt of wearing the jewelry is under distress and prays to nab the accused in recovering her jewelry.

 

Mulund Friends president Suresh Shetty Yeyyady is in touch with Satish and Harish, following up the case with Kurla terminal GRP police taking the clue from CCTV footage.
