Jilted woman abducts lover at gunpoint from his wedding

Kanpur, 18 May 2017: They say art imitates life, which is why it isn’t unusual that quite a few Bollywood masala movies show grooms kidnap brides from the wedding mandap. Breaking the mold, an incident in Hamirpur district’s Maudaha city is creating waves, after a young woman abducted the groom from his wedding, at gunpoint.

 

The shocking episode that took place on Tuesday has the town agog. So far, there are no clues about the kidnapped groom’s whereabouts. People said the young man and his abductress had been in a relationship, before things went awry and the jilted woman took this drastic step.

 

Police said Ashok Yadav, the kidnapped man, was employed as a compounder at a doctor’s clinic and became involved with a woman who also working there. The young couple professed eternal, undying love for each other. But soon, trouble emerged in paradise when Ashok’s marriage was arranged with a girl living in Hamirpur district’s Bhawanipur village. After the engagement ceremony, he stopped answering his girlfriend’s calls, SMS and WhatsApp messages.

 

Late on Monday night, the wedding party arrived at Maudaha and the wedding rituals began as customs dictate. In the midst of this, the young woman arrived at the venue along with a handful of other people. Armed with a revolver, she confronted her lover and, according to eyewitnesses, demanded why he was marrying another woman when he was in love with her.

 

"Pyaar humse kiya aur shaadi kisi aur se karoge? Yeh hum bardaasht nahi karenge," she declared.

 

She then grabbed Ashok by his collar, shoved him into her waiting car and drove off.

 

Following this dramatic set of events, the police was called in to investigate. The DCP of Maudaha police circle said he believes the kidnapping was staged and the couple were hand in glove.

 

"How can a woman kidnap a grown man in front of so many people? Nobody tried to stop them or save the groom. In reality, the man willingly went away with the girl," he claimed.

 

Police arrested Ashok’s brother and some photographers in connection to the case.
