Mumbai, 29 Mar 2017: Gudi Padwa is the Maharashtrian Hindu festival which marks the beginning of New Year. The festival is celebrated with utmost fanfare and grandeur.
The new year is referred to with different names like Gudi Padwa for Maharashtrians, Cheti Chand for Sindhis, Ugadi to people of mid-southern states, Navreh to Kashmiris and Sajibu Cheiraoba to Manipuris.
The festival celebrated on the first day of Chaitra, also known as Chaitra Shukla Pratipada according to the lunisolar Hindu calendar. This year the festival was celebrated on March 28, 2017.
