Hours before funeral ’dead’ farmer wakes up

Yadgiri, 24 Feb 2017: Within a week, another man reportedly wakes up from his ’dead’ sleep in Karnataka. Almost three days after a Dharwad boy dramatically gets up on his way to the crematorium, a Yadgiri farmer, who was presumed dead, just sits up hours before his funeral procession.
Ningappa Basappa Somnaal, who is a resident of Yadgiri district’s Madalinganaal village, complained of severe chest pain on February 16. The 54-year-old farmer was rushed to a hospital in Vijaypur. Leter, he was shifted to another hospital in the city.
The doctors, upon inspection, advised him to undergo a surgery. Somnaal was kept under observation for two days in Intensive Care Unit (ICU). During the medical course, his heart supposedly weakened. Due to this, the doctors informed the family that surgery cannot take place. And, if any operation is performed, the chances of Somnaal’s survival are pretty less. The medical officers also told the farmer’s kin that he may not survice for more than two hours after the surgery.
The devastated family members then decided to bring Somnaal home. However, in a dramatic turns of events, he was announced dead on his way back home. The grief-stricken family started planning for his final rites and informed all relatives. The funeral was scheduled for the next day.
However, Somnaal got up in the middle of the night around 4 am, just a few hours before his funeral processions.
Dr Dharmaraj Hosmani, senior health officer said, "Everybody’s heart beat weakens. However, brain functions. The doctors in the hospital where Somnaal was admitted assumed him to be dead, while he was in a state of comatose. Later, the patient’s brain and heart started giving response again, so he might have woken up. He will be alright after proper medical care."
