Udupi: Lions District Governor Divakar Shetty pays official visit to Lions Club, Moodubelle

Udupi, 17 Feb 2017: Ln. B. Divakar Shetty, mjf, Governor of Lions District 317C paid official visit to Lions Club, Moodubelle on Thursday, 16 February 2017 and inaugurated a number of social service activities undertaken by the Lions Club, Moodubelle under the able leadership of President Ln. Elias D’Souza. Ln. Divakar Shetty greatly appreciated these service activities during the official meeting held in the Lions Seva Bhavan at 7.30 pm.
On his official visit to the Lions Club, Moodubelle, Ln. Divakar Shetty was welcomed by President Ln. Elias D’Souza, Secretary Ln. Devdas Hebbar, Treasurer Ln. Henry Fernandes and other Lions Club members at Naalkubeedhi. Thereafter the District Governor along with the office bearers and members visited the residences of the Charter members Ln. Benedict Martis, Ln. Bernard D’Souza and later Ln. William D’Sa and honoured them with shawl, memento and Governor’s badge on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the foundation of the Lions Club, Moodubelle.
On the way to Moodubelle, the District Governor also visited the residence of Mrs. Ganga Sapalthi and offered her two bags of rice and a saree. The house of Mrs. Ganga Sapalthi was constructed by the Lions Club, Moodubelle along with the financial assistance from Belle Grama Panchayat and other donors under the ‘Home for Homeless’ programme of the Lions Club, Moodubelle in 2014-15.
Proceeding to the Belle Panchayat Office, Ln. Divakar Shetty handed over chair desks to 75 SC/ST students and a solar lamp to one of the families. The chair desks were sponsored jointly by the Grama Panchayat and Lions Club, Moodubelle. The Panchayat officials, President Mrs. Ranjani Hegde, Vice President Harish Shetty, Panchayat members and PDO and Mrs. Sujata Suvarna-Udupi Taluk Panchayat member were present during the occasion.
The next stop was the ground of Church Aided Higher Primary School where two solar lights sponsored by the Lions Club, Moodubelle on the request of Old Students Association were inaugurated by Ln. Divakar Shetty. Besides the office bearers and members of the Lions Club, Fr. Clement Mascarenhas- Correspondent of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions, Sr. Irene Viegas-Headmistress of the school, Vincent Fernandes-Vice President of Parish Pastoral Council, Lloyd Rebello-President of the Old Students Association, Mrs. Ranjani Hegde, Mrs. Sujata Suvarna and Mrs. Ida Gibba D’Souza-former member of Udupi Zilla Panchayat were present.
Another service activity of the Lions Club, Moodubelle was the provision of electric connection to the residence of Narayana Shetty in association with the Bunts Organization of Udupi. Ln. Divakar Shetty switched on the electric supply.
The last and the most important service activity inaugurated by Ln. Divakar Shetty on the occasion of his official visit to the Lions Club, Moodubelle was the newly built house of Satyendra and Veena Nayak constructed by the Lions Club, Moodubelle under the ‘Home for Homelss’ programme with certain amount of the grants from the Belle Grama Panchayat and donations in cash and kind from other people including the members of Mother Teresa ward. Besides the Lions Club members, the inauguration function was attended by Panchayat officials and Fr. Clement Mascarenhas. Ln. Dvakar Shetty inaugurated the house by cutting the ribbon and Fr. Clement Mascarenhas inaugurated the electric connection by switching on the lights. Lamp was lit by the dignitaries and the members of the Nayak family. Ln. Gerald Fernandes narrated the circumstances that led to the taking up of the project by the Lions Club of Moodubelle. The generous people who had contributed to the completion of the project were honoured during this occasion.
The official meeting of the District Governor’s visit began at 7.45 pm in the Lions Seva Bhavan. The dignitaries on the dais included District Governor Ln. Divakar Shetty, Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, Ln. Sunil Salian-District Cabinet Secretary, Ln. Wilfred D’Souza-Mentor, Ln. Tallur Shivaram Shetty-Second District Vice Governor, Ln. Gopinath Bhat-Region Chairman, Ln. Inna Uday Kumar Shetty-Zone Chairman, Ln. Elias Lobo-Zone Secretary, Ln. Elias D’Souza-President of Lions Club, Moodubelle, Ln. Devdas Hebbar-Secretary and Ln. Henry fernandes-Treasurer.
Following the prayer song by Roslyn Quadros, the national flag march was done by daughter of Ln. Elias D’Souza, Snehal Preethika, NCC Cadet and student of Little Rock School, Brahmavar and Flag Salutation was recited by Karthik Shetty.
Ln. Elias D’Souza welcomed the District Governor and other dignitaries on the dais as well as the guests in the audience, Ln. V.G. Shetty-District Programme Coordinator, Ln. N.M. Hegde-District PRO and other invitees.
Ln. Devdas Hebbar presented the report of the various service activities undertaken by the Lions Club, Moodubelle during the Lionistic Year 2016-17.
Besides honouring three Charter members by visiting their homes due to their inability to attend the function, three other Charter members-Ln. Devdas Hebbar, Ln. Elias Lobo and Ln. Cyril D’Souza were honoured by the District Governor during the function. The Charter President Ln. Commodore Jerome Castelino could not attend the function due to unavoidable circumstances.
The young achievers were also felicitated during the function. These included Amith Salian-NSS student who participated in the Republic Day Parade at Delhi, Reema Mathias-SSLC Student of St. Lawrence English Medium High School who was the Winner of Peace Poster Competition and Pronoy D’Souza-Winner of National level Quiz for Rural Students.
Following the introduction of the District Governor by Ln. Gerald Fernandes, Ln. Divakar Shetty in his address appreciated the various service activities undertaken by the Lions Club of Moodubelle. He made a special mention about honouring the Charter members by visiting their homes on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the foundation of the Lions Club of Moodubelle. He expressed the hope that by the time Lions Club of Moodubelle celebrates the Silver Jubilee there should be a District Governor from the Club. He hinted at the potential candidature of Ln. Devdas Hebbar to the overwhelming applaud of the audience.
Ln. Elias Lobo read the Appreciation Resolution in honour of the District Governor which was handed over to him by Ln. Elias D’Souza.
Ln. Sunil Salian, Fr. Clement Mascarenhas and Ln. Wilfred D’Souza in their messages appreciated the various activities conducted by the Lions Club of Moodubelle under the dynamic leadership of its president Ln. Elias D’Souza.
Ln. Henry Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks and Mrs. Lilly Sequeira compeered the programme.
