St. Lawrence Computer Centre inaugurated in Church Aided HP School, Moodubelle

Udupi, 16 Feb 2017: The long standing dream of the Old Students Association of Church Aided Higher Primary School to provide a fully equipped Computer Centre to the students of the school was fulfilled when St. Lawrence Computer Centre was inaugurated on Thursday, 16 February 2017 at 10 am in a newly renovated and air-condition installed room in the school building sponsored by Belle Parishioners, UAE. The computer centre was inaugurated by Dr. Ravichandran, the proprietor of Diya Glow Touch Technologies, one of the renowned computer institution who had donated 10 computers to the centre.
Following the formal inauguration of St. Lawrence Computer Centre, stage programme was held in the school auditorium. The function was presided over by Fr. Denis D’Sa, PRO of Udupi Diocese. The other dignitaries on the dais included Dr. Ravichandran, the chief guest, Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, Correspondent of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions, Fr. Lawrence Cutinhas-Assistant Parish priest, Chandra Nayak-Educational Coordinator of Udupi Zone, Mrs. Ranjani Hegde-President of Belle Grama Panchayat, Mrs. Sujata Suvarna-member of Udupi Taluk Panchayat, Vincent Fernandes-Vice President of Parish Pastoral Council, Lloyd Rebello-President of Old Students Association, Robert Martis-President of PTA and Sr. Irene Viegas-Headmistress of Church Aided Higher Primary School.
The inaugural function was formally inaugurated by lighting the lamp by the chief guest, Dr. Ravichandran and other dignitaries on the dais.
In his welcome address, Fr. Clement Mascarenhas pointed out about his acquaintance with Dr. Ravichandran and his son Harikrishna who was his student in ninth and tenth standard in St. Philomena High School, Puttur. Harikrishna later went to USA for higher studies and is presently a very successful entrepreneur in IT and is being listed as the sixteenth richest person in the United States. Dr. Ravichandran who served as the Professor of Biology in St. Philomena College, Puttur established Diya Glow Touch Technologies, a premier IT Institution. Dr. Ravichandran has been a philanthropists and had helped many educational institutions. When he approached Dr. Ravichandran with a request to provide ten computers to the proposed St. Lawrence Computer Centre, he readily agreed and even assured to provided ten more computers to the centre.
Dr. Ravichandran was honoured by Fr. Clement Mascarenhas and other dignitaries with shawl, jasmine garland, fruit bowl and a memento. Mrs. Anita Alva, treasturer of Old Students Association introduced Dr. Ravichandran.
In his address, Dr. Ravichandran greatly appreciated the atmosphere in the village especially the church and the educational institutions. He narrated how he came closer to Fr. Clement through his son Harikrishna who was one of the favourite students of Fr. Clement. Dr. Ravichandran applauded the contribution of the villagers towards the educational progress in the village and made an appeal to the children to use the facilities provided by the school and achieve success in life.
In his presidential message, Fr. Denis D’Sa said that God blesses all but few show generosity as done by Dr. Ravichandran and his son Harikrishna. He further said that by listening to Dr. Ravichandran’s speech he learnt few finer values such as gratitude towards the school where a student has studied and respect to teachers from whom they had studied. Fr. Denis said that this age is the age of ‘Digitization’ and everyone should take advantage of the information technology.
Lloyd Rebello, President of the Old Students Association in his address said that when the Old Students Association was revived, it had three main aims-to organize the school annual day along with the Old Students Day, provide solar lights to the school ground and to establish a computer centre. He said that all these three aims have been fulfilled. The School Annual Day along with Old Students Day was observed on 2 January 2017 successfully. Two Solar Lights sponsored by Lions Club of Moodubelle under the presidentship of Ln. Elias D’Souza would be inaugurated in the evening of 16 February by Lions District Governor, Ln. Divakar Shetty at 5 pm and St. Lawrence Computer Centre sponsored by Belle Parishioners in UAE who are the Old Students of the school has been already inaugurated. Ten computers have been donated by Dr. Ravichandran who has also promised to provide ten more computers to the centre. The Belle Parishioners of UAE have sponsored Rs. 4 lakhs for the setting up of the Computer Centre. Speaking further Lloyd Rebello expressed his gratitude to all spnsors and requested the parishioners to make use of this Computer Centre.
Fr. Clement Mascarenhas was honoured for his leadership and encouragement in establishing the computer centre.
The educational Coordinator, Chandra Nayak in his speech said that St. Lawrence Educational Institutions have been in the forefront in every field. The computer centre has added the value of the higher primary school and made an appeal to the students to make full use of the computer facilities.
Sr. Irene Viegas proposed the vote of thanks and Maxim D’Sa compeered the programme.
