Udupi/M’Belle: Annual Day celebrated in St. Lawrence Composite PU College

Moodubelle, 10 Dec 2016: The Annual Day and prize distribution function was held in St. Lawrence Composite PU College, Moodubelle on Saturday, 10 December 2016 from 10 am to 1.30 pm. Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, Correspondent of  St. Lawrence Educational Institutions presided over the function. The chief guests of the function who were later honoured for their  achievements were Dr. Rev. Br. Henry Sequiera CSC and Ms. Shruthi S. who were also the old students of the institution. Other dignitaries on the dais included: Alphonse Alva-Vice President of Parish pastoral Council and President of Parents-Teachers Association, Principal Naveen Correa, Senior Teacher Mrs. Leena D’Silva, CPL Ashish Alva and SPL Navitha. Besides these other invitees in the audience included Maxim D’Sa, President of Old Students Association, Mrs. Ida Gibba D’Souza, former member of Udupi Zilla Panchayat, former teachers-PD Kamath, JB Miranda, Immanuel Cornelio, Mrs. Precilla Lobo and heads of sister institutions-Mrs. Veera Fernandes-Headmistress of St. Lawrence English Medium High School and Sr. Irene Viegas-Headmistress of Church Aided Higher Primary School.

 

Following the prayer song by the students of the PUC, Mrs. Leena D’Silva welcomed the guests and dignitaries on the dais. Principal Naveen Correa presented the annual report of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School as well as St. Lawrence PU College.

 

Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, Chief Guests Dr. Rev. Br. Henry Sequeira, Ms. Shruthi S, Alphonse Alva, Principal Naveen Correa and Mrs. Leena D’Silva distributed prizes in turn to meritorious students of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School who  had excelled in academics, co-curricular activates, extra-curricular activities and sports.

 

 

On this occasion, Dr. Rev. Br. Hnery Sequeira, one of the old students of the institution was honoured for his academic achievements. Charles Quadros introduced Dr. Henry Sequeira to the audience. Thereafter, Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenahs along with other dignitaries on the dais felicitated Dr. Henry Sequeira by offering him shawl, bouquet of flowers, fruits and memento.

 

Another alumni of the institution who was also the  guest  of honour of the function, Ms. Shruthi S was felicitated for securing Gold Medal in BSc. Nursing at Yenopaya College of Nursing, Derlakatte, Mangalore.  She was introduced to the audience by Prof. Dileep Shetty.

 

Responding to the felicitation, Dr. Henry Sequeira said that he was happy and filled with joy as he was honoured by his Alma Mater. He further said that he was encouraged by his mother Mrs. Philomena D’Souza to study and inspired by Philip D’Souza who had stood first in the Karnataka State in SSLC examination. In his message to the students, Dr. Henry Sequeira said that achievement in education is directly proportional to achievement in life. Further he said that all management is people management and all people management is self management. He thanked Mrs. Leena D’Silva for inviting him to be the chief guest of the annual day function and honouring him for his achievements. He wished well to all the students in their coming examinations and hoped that both in PUC and SSLC the institution would have hundred percent result.

 

Ms. Shruthi in her message said that education had played an important role in her life. It was the strong foundation that she had in the institution that helped her to purse BSc course in Nursing and secure the Gold Medal. She further said that students should select that field of study in which they are interested and put in their best efforts to achieve success.

 

The dignitaries on the dais gave away prizes to PUC students who had achieved distinguished positions in academics and extracurricular activities including sports.

 

In his presidential address, Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas said that the institution is proud to honour two of its distinguished old students. He asked the students to take inspiration and encouragement from Dr. Henry Sequeira and Ms. Shruthi S.  He appealed students to put in their best efforts in their respective public  examinations and achieve success and bring glory to the institutions in which they study.

 

Ms. Rashmi Shetty proposed the vote of thanks and Shreya and Sudip Dhondya compeered the programme.

 

Soon after the stage programme, Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas along with other dignitaries inaugurated the Water Cooler donated by the Lions Club of Moodubelle to St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School. Ln. Elias D’Souza-President of Lions Club of Moodubelle, Ln. Devdas Hebbar-Secretary and Ln. Elias Lobo-Zone Secretary were present at this occasion.

 

The annual day concluded with cultural programmes presented by the students from different classes of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School and St. Lawrence PU College. Edna Menezes and Preston D’Souza anchored the cultural programme.

 

About Dr. Rev. Br. Henry Sequeira:

 

Br. Henry Sequeira was born on 1 January 1957 as fourth among five children of late Antony Sequeira and Mrs. Philomena D’Souza belonging to Pamboor Parish. After completing his high school education in this high school in 1973, Br. Henry Sequeira joined the Holy Cross Religious Congregation. Along with religious training he acquired higher educational qualification such as B.Sc from St. Joseph’s Collegee, Bangalore, B.ED. from Annamalai University, M.Sc. in Clinical Counselling Psychology from University of Portland, Oregon,USA, M.Phil. in Psychology from Annamalai University and finally Ph.D. in Clincical Counseling Psychology under the title ‘Developing Peace Behaviors in Adolescents; Strategies for Aggression Management and Conflict Resolution’

 

 

Besides achieving great success in academic career, Dr. Rev. Br. Henry Sequeira carried on specialized religious education and acquired Diploma in Catechetics  from Vidya Deep College, Bangalore  and Diploma in Theology from Jnana Deepa Vidyapeeth, Pune.

 

Dr. Rev. Br. Henry Sequeira has been  using his academic achievement and vast experience in serving various institutions in different capacities.

 

As a teacher in Holy Cross Matriculation Higher Secondary School (equivalent to PU college), Salem, Tamil twice in 1979 and 1982; Director, Jeevan Jyothi Technical Institute (ITI), Honavar, Karnataka from 1983 to 1991; Director, Abhayadhama Human Resource Development Centre, Whitefield, Bangalore from 1991 to 1992; Principal, Holy Cross Matriculation Higher Secondary School (equivalent to PU college), Salem, Tamil Nadu from 1995 to 2000;  Principal, Holy Cross High School, Whitefield, Bangalore from 2005 to 2006; Lecturer (Counseling Psychology), Darshan College,(for Post graduate diploma students) Kengeri, Bangalore from 2006 to 2007; Lecturer (Counseling Psychology), Montfort College,(for M.Sc.) Indira Nagar, Bangalore from 2007 to 2008;  August, 2014-15. Worked in Holy Cross School, Aizwal, Mizoram, North-East, India from 2014 to 2015; and presently working as a Counselor: St. Joseph’s college and school, Bangalore. Dr. Rev. Br. Henry Sequeira also gives Seminars/ sessions in Counselling /Psychology /Spirituality and  Human growth and development.

 

The Religious Responsibilities of Dr. Rev. Br. Henry Sequeira included,  Provincial Council Member, The Brothers of Holy Cross, India from 1989 to 1993; Provincial of the Brothers of Holy Cross, India from 2000 to 2003; Treasurer of Karnataka Regional Conference of Religious (KRCR), Bangalore from 2001 to 2003; and Executive Member of Conference of Religious India (CRI), Delhi from 2001 to 2003.

 

Dr. Rev. Br. Henry Sequeira has been a Professional Member of the Catholic Counselling Psychologist Association, India; since 2000.

 

Dr. Rev. Br. Henry Sequeira has been a widely travelled person. So far he has visited the following countries for the purpose of study or sightseeing: USA, Canada ,Chile, Brazil, France, Rome, Germany, UK, Kenya, Uganda, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Israel, Dubai, Abu-Dhabi, Bahrain.
