I had to fly to US by Air India on the same evening the flight crashed in Mangalore. When I seeing the news channels in the morning, I was taken aback. Very sad to know that we are at the mercy of the machines that we created for our convenience. may the departed souls in this crash rest in peace.

As per a proverb, only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realize we cannot eat money. We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children. So let us make everything possible to preserve it for our children. Nice article Akil, keep it up.

Air Crash is sad, may be it could have been avoided ???. Indian pilots could be a better option for sure for villages like our Mangalore. Hope, govt. learns a lesson atleast extending the runway / necessary modification on the runway.

It is very sad our parishioner Mrs Patricia is unlucky to claim her husbands body it is quite unfortunate. Really it broke my heart. Suppose if my family is in this situation God only knows what would have been happened.I pray to God please don t put anybody in this kind of situation and pray God give them courage to bear their great loss. It all made my mind to pay a visit to these families in my coming holidays to console them and share their sorrows that is the list i can do. Dear Ignatius if you are alive what would have been thought about your children and their future. God only knows your children how much love they expected from you, Ignatius you are no more with us but you are always with us in our heart.May God bless his soul rest in peace.

This has been one among the great initiatives by Bellevision for a noble cause. Very good thought by Mr. Victor Castelino to link this project to the Centenary celebrations of the parish and have a hundred children benefit from it. Nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something. As Mother Teresa said we can do no great things, only small things with great love. So let us help these little children.

Business magnates are ready. Sarkar is ready. Are we ready? To absorb 4 lakh crore industrial investments?

When the MoUs will reach realization stage, we will join either MoUist or Maoist camps. Depending on how they personally affect us. MoUist, if we benefit, Maoist if we lose our land. Or when outsiders take plum jobs. Or if outsiders court our sisters and daughters. If our traditional way of life and culture is sullied.
Oh! let me wait until the MoUists begin to celebrate?

I am happy to know that this great Parish of St. Lawrence, which I happened to visit in January this year, is in the centenary year and is poised to celebrate the Feast Day of St. Lawrence on 10th August, 2010, followed by the Centenary day celebration on 1st November,2010. I understand, the annual parish feast and closing of centenary celebrations function will be held on 5th January, 2011.
I will certainly try to attend any one of the functions in case I happen to be at Mangalore. May I wish your parish a successful centenary year celebrations as planned.

Mr.Thomas D sa, I liked your thoughts and views. In addition to your comments i feel Belleans should not loose their pride again.Remember our last "annasantharpane" was held during inauguration of our new church building. It was a total mess.Concerned people should not dare to organise such event and bear the blow again and again.Since it is very difficult to handle such a"Huge" croud.
Better spend the money for a better cause rather than bitter pleasure(memories).
Idea of Thulu Drama is okey.It may cater the other communities in someway around.
"Horekanike and Annasantharpane.."
We are good at first part of the phrase not the other.

Business magnates are ready. Sarkar is ready. Are we ready?
In the mega investment realization stage, tow camps will emerge: MoUists, and Maoists. You know what I mean. Which of the two sides will you take? That will depend on what personally happens to you: if your land is lost to the project, if you see outsiders get plum jobs or even court your sisters and daughters....life will not be simple...whatever happened to our great culture...I will wait for these views.

Pause the Panic button. The sources give any news story the color of their intent. It is true that IX-212 hit an air pocket and lost "some" height. Some is 21K (As claimed here) or 1K or less? None of the passengers were thrown around or hurt. When Emirates flight EK-530 dropped only 200 ft Acc to airline) in Kerala recently, many were seriously hurt and hospitalized. yet, the story died without any fuss. Not only safety records, but in all KPI of AI must improve, but panic is not required. For me, chances of dying in a AI crash are less than being run over by a car here in Doha.

I took liberty to link this article to my blog at www.cplash.com
For a week, the bodies had confused identities based on the religion of the claimants. This despite the claim of each religion that God is one.
With the common funeral, good sense prevailed over sectarian mindset.
The souls are now truly at peace. May God now give peace to us, the living, peace, wisdom and courage to work towards preventing tragic untimely loss of lives.

There was some relief when we had direct flights from Gulf to Mangalore instead of via Mumbai. But now with this series of mishaps from Air India it is not really comfortable. Why we are not privileged to fly with the airlines of our choice? Why Kingfisher or Jet airways are not allowed to fly from Gulf to Mangalore so far, so that we can have choice.

Good to know about our parish centenary program. Occasions such as centenary will not come again for a few years and hence we must need to utilize the opportunity in a better way. There need to be more programs such as spiritual as well as social programs which can be conducted. I am sure it is the right time to take up new projects as our patron St.Lawrence will not leave us behind. Programs such as "annasanthrpane" and cultural programs will not leave a lasting impression. Need to take clue from other parishes and must do something which can last for few years. Please think about it.

Completely agree with Mr. Thomas Dsa.

Suggest; please try to organize inter ward competitions like quiz / sports / games etc.. to keep every single individuals alive and alert towards the points table. This could help the winning ward to make it memorable as well.

Further, please try to do something different instead of TULU Drama.. which been executed regularly over the years for most of the special events. (Prefer: musical nites / live music with the great combinations of TULU, KANADA, KONKANI, ENGLISH, HINDI ETC).

Wishing every success to the Parish priest , pastoral committee and parishioners for all the centenary programmes. Journey with St. Lawrence to each wards of parish was a very good idea. Apart from the gatering and lunch, I cant find any other event or programme that would keep the memories of centenary programme alive for the years to come. Jublee celebration committee please have re-look or through some light on this. It is better to think now rather repent later.

I have so many fond memories of Ignatius as he was my cousin. Besides that he was also my class mate and bench mate in 8th standard at St. Lawrence High School. I still remember those school days when we enjoyed each others company. Death is never easy to accept and when it is so unexpected it adds to the grief. It is times like this that puts our faith to the test and that is why we have to use our faith to see us through the grief and despair that comes with tragedy. Dear Florine Mousi, Patricia, Precita, Chris Garry, Benedict, Victor, Juliana, Sr. Ilene and Edward, our thoughts and prayers will be with you and your lovely family. The Bible says blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted. We pray that God will bless you and give you the strength to get through this very difficult time. Many thanks to Dr. Eugene for going all the way to Panamboor and providing the pictures and the detailed report on the same day in Bellevision.

Indian politics has a tendency to aggravate even a silliest issue to make people think that our politicians have done something invincible.... but to their amusement people no longer posses the patience to taken for granted.. however the numbers are in minority... we cant deny a fact which is a part of daily life ( read caste).. so inspite of running away from the matter lets try to acknowledge it so that the next Gen need not carry this "legacy" forward.

Why can t we stop these astounding politicians from asking AAI a public sector undertaking to build airports at improbable locations. They will come up with such damn ideas and when an unfortunate incident like this happens, every one makes AAI a punching bag. The politicians are out to make AAI sick by asking it to undertake huge expenditure on such projects as extending mangalore runway by another 1000 ft requiring huge landfill and subsequently making it a sick industry. NO GMR OR GVK IS ASKED TO DO SUCH OUTRAGEOUS THINGS. In the name of social responsibility AAI is saddled with around 100 airports out of which hardly any are profitable. AAI has built an airport at Mysore at a huge expenditure and no one is prepared to use it. It has an airport at Belgaum and again no one is using it. This wasted public money could very well be used to get better communication navigational and surveillance equipments and add to the safety record of AAI. Hope some honourable MP reads this and takes up the cause in the interests of the travelling public
