Udupi: Yakshagana veteran Padmasri Chittani Ramachandra (85) no more

Udupi, 04 Oct 2017: Padmasri Chittani Ramachandra Hegde (85), Yakshagana artiste passed away owing to pneumonia at KMC Hospital, Manipal, here, on Tuesday, October 3 night. He is survived by wife, daughter and 3 sons.

 

 

Ramachandra was born on January 1, 1933. He left school at Class II and took great interest in Yakshagana of Badaguttu style when he was 7 years old. He donned the key roles by 14 years. 

 

He was popular because of his distinct style and left behind his legacy as an accomplished Yakshagana artiste for over 7 decades. He was gentle and compassionate.

 

 

He was the first Yakshagana artiste to get Padmasri. He donned the roles till a few years before his demise. He has left behind a void in Yakshagana that is difficult to fill.
